Highlights of Holland.
No country of Europe offers so many different combinations of travelling by boat and bicycle as the Netherlands. So the obvious choice is to take advantage of this convenient and interesting approach. You will discover the most bicycle-friendly country of Europe on various routes. You live on typical Netherlands riverboats, originally used for inland traffic and adapted for our way of travelling. Your boat accompanies the daily tour so that you even can decide to stay onboard and to enjoy a picturesque river cruise. No looking for hotels, no packing and unpacking of suitcases and during the day free cycling along without luggage.
Tour course
Day 1: Individual arrival and embarkation in Amsterdam
Check-in is available from 2 p.m. Take your time to see the capital of The Netherlands, do some shopping or join the Grachten tour.
Day 2: Amsterdam – Enkhuizen approx. 10 – 20 km
In the morning you go by ship over Ijsselmeer to the beautiful harbour city Enkhuizen. In the afternoon you can go on a short cycle tour around Enkhuizen or you visit the Zuiderzee museum. In the evening there is a city tour through the historic part of Enkhuizen.
Day 3: Enkhuizen – Hoorn – Voldendam approx. 25 km
You go by bike through the landscape; or you go by ship from Enkhuizen to Hoorn. In the afternoon city tour (included) through the historic parts of Hoorn. In the evening you go by ship to Volendam where you also join a short city tour (included).
Day 4: Volendam – Zaandam – open-air museum Zaanse Schans approx. 10 km
During breakfast you go by ship over Ijsselmeer and the North Sea canal to Zaandam. By bike you cycle to the open-air museum Zaanse Schans (included). In the evening you go by ship to Haarlem.
Day 5: Haarlem – Zandvoort – Haarlem – Leiden approx. 25 km
You cycle to the beach of Zandvoort. On your return journey you cycle through the dunes. Or you do sightseeing in the historic old city. In the afternoon you go by ship to Leiden. A short city tour is included (included).
Day 6: Leiden – Uithoorn – Amsterdam approx. 25 km
You cycle from Leiden to Uithoorn, which is located at the periphery of Amsterdam. In the afternoon you go by ship through Amsterdam back to the landing stage.
Day 7: Amsterdam approx. 25 km
You cycle along numerous small lakes and canals or you spend the whole day in the interesting capital city. In the evening you have the possibility to do a Grachten tour.
Day 8: After breakfast disembarkation
Route features
To travel the Netherlands by bicycle and boat maybe is the most natural way to discover this country. They are an El Dorado for cyclists. Some thousand kilometres of very well maintained bicycle paths enable interesting and relaxing tours and a personal approach of discovering the most attractive parts of the flat country. Additionally the Netherlands are a country of water: almost every significant city and many points of interest are accessible by water. Our comfortable boats chug along beautiful small canals and rivers.
