North Sea coast, Polder land and harbours at Ijsselmeer. Open water, flat landscapes and picturesque cities – northern route. Discover traditional areas in flat Polder land, at the North Sea and in romantic harbour villages. You cycle through dried up lakes and marsh. Diversified green Polder landscapes with quiet bike routes, miles long North Sea beach and beautiful dunes take it in turns. For many guests well worth seeing and bike-friendly North Sea Island Texel is the highlight of this journey. Beautiful open landscapes, small dozy villages and picturesque harbour villages at Ijsselmeer are coining the second part of this tour. Further highlights are: the open air museum Zaanse Schans, the old city of Alkmaar and the old harbour cities Medemblik, Enkhuizen, Hoorn and Volendam. This (and lots more) is offered through the nature coined northern route in the province of northern Holland.

Tour course

Day 1: Arrival and embarkation in Amsterdam, cruise Amsterdam – Zaandam
Embarkation starts at 2 p.m. in Amsterdam. Explore the old city, shopping, museum or a boat tour through the canals: that way you get to know the city in a unique way. At 6.30 p.m. “dinner cruise” to Zaandam.

Day 2: Zaandam – „Zaanse Schans“ – Alkmaar approx. 50 km
Worth-seeing is, amongst others the open air museum „Zaanse Schans“ with traditional Dutch wooden houses, wind mills, cheese dairy and clog-makers. Bike tour through wonderful landscape. Overnight in Alkmaar.

Day 3: Alkmaar – St.-Maartensvlotbrug – Den Helder approx. 40 - 60 km
Cruise Den Helder – Island Texel
From Alkmaar through the art village Bergen tot he North Sea. Along the coast and through flat landscapes to the harbour of Den Helder. In the evening cruise to North Sea island Texel.

Day 4: Island Texel: Oudeschild - Oudeschild approx. 15 – 65 km, cruise island Texel – Den Oever
Loop tour on the biggest Dutch North Sea island Texel. Through wonderful nature with possibility for a rest on the beautiful beaches. Tipp: visit the seal sanctuary “Ecomare” and/or cycle along the well sign-posted Thijsseroute through beautiful villages and landscape (approx. 40 km). In the evening cruise to Den Oever.

Day 5: Cruise Den Oever – Medemblik, Medemblik – Enkhuizen approx. 30 - 50 km
Bike tour from Medemblik through the heartland or along the coast to Enkhuizen with wonderful harbour, historic old city, interesting “Zuiderzee museum”.

Day 6: Enkhuizen – Hoorn – Volendam approx. 50 km
Bike tour via Hoorn (worth-seeing historic old city) and cheese city Edam to the old fisher harbour Volendam: enjoy some fish („Paling or salted herring „Matjes) in the harbour.

Day 7: Volendam – Waterland – Amsterdam approx. 35 - 50 km
Through beautiful „water land“ with numerous small lakes and canals, visit of a cheese farm, eventual detour to the wonderful former island Marken and back into the capital city. Afternoon and evening in Amsterdam. If you weren’t already on a boat tour through the canals on your arrival day you should join a tour today.

Day 8: Amsterdam: trip home
After breakfast: disembarkation and end of your journey.

Route features

To travel in Holland by bike and boat probably is the way which fits the Netherlands most. It is a paradise for cyclists. Several thousands kilometres of bike paths allow interesting and recreative tours and personal explore of the most beautiful and attractive parts of this flat country. Furthermore Holland is land of water: nearly every important city and lots of places of interest are reachable through waterways. Our comfortable boats chug in enjoyable pace through the beautiful small canals and rivers.

Arrival / parking / departure
Main train station Amsterdam (Centraal station): the landing stage is located in the near.
Guided parking space in Amsterdam for about € 93, a reservation is not possible.

Note:
Program and details are subject to changes due to nautical and meteorological reasons (this is no reason for a gratis cancellation).
Cruise to island Texel by boat on Monday’s doesn’t take place at bad weather conditions: cruise Den Helder – Texel and back by ferry.
Special wishes concerning meals as dietary or vegetarian food can be provided upon request. Surcharge is € 25 per person/week (payable on spot). Please inform us with your booking.
