With the MS Serena.
No country of Europe offers so many different combinations of travelling by boat and bicycle as the Netherlands. So the obvious choice is to take advantage of this convenient and interesting approach. You will discover the most bicycle-friendly country of Europe on various routes. You live on typical Netherlands riverboats, originally used for inland traffic and adapted for our way of travelling. Your boat accompanies the daily tour so that you even can decide to stay onboard and to enjoy a picturesque river cruise. No looking for hotels, no packing and unpacking of suitcases and during the day free cycling along without luggage

Tour course
Day 1: Individual arrival and embarkation in Amsterdam
Take your time to see the capital of The Netherlands, do some shopping or join the Grachten tour. In the evening you cruise to Hoorn (beautiful old city) during your dinner.
Day 2: Hoorn – Enkhuizen approx. 30 km
Today you cycle to the city of Edam (cheese) and via Hoorn (historic old city) to Enkhuizen. We recommend visiting the beautiful harbour and Zuiderzee museum.
Day 3: Enkhuizen – Lemmer by ship
Lemmer round trip approx. 45 km
Journey by ship across Ijsselmeer to Lemmer (not in bad weather). Round trip via Oosterzee Buren to Tjeukemeer and on to Delfstrahuizen and Rottige Meente. Via Scherpenzeel and Schoterzijl back to Lemmer with its historic old city and the picturesque houses.
Day 4: Lemmer – Stavoren approx. 28 km
Stavoren – Oudeschild (Island Texel) by ship
You go by bike to Lake Sandeler Leijen, through the forest of Rijsterbos and along Mokkebank (bird sanctuary) to the Roode cliff in Stavoren. By ship to Oudeschild (Island Texel).
Day 5: Oudeschild (Island texel) round trip approx. 65 km
Oudeschild – Den Helder by ship
Round trip on the biggest Dutch North See Island Texel. We recommend the well signposted Thijsse route (approx. 40 km) and the visit of the seal breeding station EcoMare. In the evening you go by ship to Den Helder.
Day 6: Den Helder – Alkmaar approx. 25-55 km
You cycle through the dunes to Alkmaar. Possibility to start and end the tour in St Maartensvlotbrug.
Day 7: Alkmaar – Wormerveer by ship
Wormersveer – Amsterdam approx. 28 km
Seize the opportunity to visit the cheese market in the morning! Afterwards you go by ship from Alkmaar to Wormerveer around midday. By bike to the open-air museum Zaanse Schans (wind mills, Old Dutch village, cheese dairy …) and through the recreation area “Twiske” back to Amsterdam.
Day 8: After breakfast disembarkation
Route features
To travel the Netherlands by bicycle and boat maybe is the most natural way to discover this country. They are an El Dorado for cyclists. Some thousand kilometres of very well maintained bicycle paths enable interesting and relaxing tours and a personal approach of discovering the most attractive parts of the flat country. Additionally the Netherlands are a country of water: almost every significant city and many points of interest are accessible by water. Our comfortable boats chug along beautiful small canals and rivers.
