Along river Rhône.
The mountains of Massif Central and the foothills of the Alps are accompanying your way along river Rhône from Lyon into Provence. Vineyards and fruit orchards show the richness of nature. Day 1: Arrival in Lyon
Individual arrival to Lyon and possibility to visit the city. The city is part of UNESCO world cultural heritage since 1998. It offers about 30 museums and is the capital city of treats with exquisite cuisine.
Day 2: Lyon – Condrieu/surroundings approx. 55 km
You start in Lyon, follow the loops of river Rhône to Vienne with a lot of hints of old roman settlements. Today´s aim is Condrieu. Overnight stay is in Condrieu/surroundings with is well-known for its white wine.
Day 3: Condrieu/surroundings – Tournon approx. 60 km
Today you cycle to Tournon with picturesque historic old city and palace. Tournon is surrounded by the vineyards of Cotes du Rhone. Only the river disconnects the city of the vineyards, where the grapes of well-known wine Hermitage are growing.
Day 4: Tournon – Loriol approx. 45 km
Along the left banks of river Rhône you cycle to Valence, which is also named northern gate of the Provence. Most famous building in the city with old inner city is cathedral St. Apollinaris. Your overnight stay is in Loriol.
Day 5: Loriol – Montelimar – Bourg St. Andéol approx. 65 km
Today you reach the medieval city of Viviers. Behind the cathedral from 12th century you have a beautiful view over the Rhône valley. Your journey leads you via Nougat city Montelimar to Bourg St. Andéol. Picturesque houses from 16th to 18th century are coining the old city.
Day 6: Bourg St. Andéol – Orange approx. 50 km
The river leads you to Pont St. Esprit. A 900 m long and 600 years old bridge is leading over the river. Your today´s aim in Orange. The roman theatre is part of UNESCO world cultural heritage.
Day 7: Return journey
After breakfast individual departure or additional nights. You can combine this tour also with the tour “Provence & Camargue” or “Provence loop tour”.
Route features
Easy tour, also for beginners with only some slightly grades. You cycle on small roads and asphalted paths with less traffic.
