Tour course

Day 1: Individual arrival in Munich
A visit to the fortress museum, Fortress Grünwald and the Bavaria Film City located nearby possible.

Day 2: Munich – Lake Starnberger See approx. 35 km
Information meeting and bike distribution. From Munich you cycle through the Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberger See. On the bike path next to the Lake you reach Ambach or Bernried. Enjoy the Lake with its crystal clear water and the beautiful view to the mountains.

Day 3: Lake Starnberger See – Murnau at Lake Staffelsee approx. 35 km
Today you reach Murnau via beautiful paths through ethnic, Bavarian villages. On your way you pass the Oster Lakes and Lake Riegsee. You have the possibility to take a bath. In Murnau the “Münsterhaus” is well worth seeing. The alliance between art and music is formative for the population and architecture.

Day 4: Murnau – Garmisch Partenkirchen approx. 35 km
At first through the nature reserve Murnauer Moos (biggest moor region in Central Europe). Continue through the unspoilt nature, following the river Loisbach to Garmisch Partenkirchen. This stage is short on purpose, so that you can take the Zugspitzbahn to the height of 2962 m. From there wonderful view of the Alps.

Day 5: Garmisch Partenkirchen – Eibsee – Garmisch Partenkirchen approx. 35 km
Your first stage of today is Lake Eibsee. A beautiful mountain panorama is compensating the altitude difference which is lying already behind you. Possibility to go by cog railway (not included) to the top of the highest mountain of Germany, the “Zugspitze”. Another possibility is to do a comfortable round trip by bike.

Day 6: Garmisch Partenkirchen – Wallgau approx. 50 km
You bridge 300 meters of altitude to Scharnitz by train. From there you go slightly uphill through wildly romantic gorges and lush alpine fields to the source of the Isar. Back through the sunny high-lying valley with wonderful panoramas of the Karwendel and Wetterstein Mountains through Mittenwald (forest) to Wallgau – a village which still cultivates Bavarian tradition.

Day 7: Wallgau – Bad Tölz approx. 50 km
Past Isarwinkel, following the turquoise-blue water to the impressive Sylvenstein Lake, and through Lenggries across charming landscapes to Bad Tölz. The town on the junction of two trading routes, the Isar and the old salt route from Reichenhall to Allgäu, developed quickly into a blooming trading post. The richly ornamented middle class houses are evidence of the golden age.

Day 8: Bad Tölz – Lake Tegernsee – Bad Tölz approx. 40 km
Through the charming landscape of Lake Tegern to Gmund am Tegernsee with a wonderful lake panorama. Along the Gaißbach Valley back again to Bad Tölz. The thermal springs of the famous spa “Alpamare” make tired muscles fit again. The Tölzer Market Street invites on a stroll in the footsteps of the famous television series “Der Bulle von Tölz” (The Cop from Tölz).

Day 9: Bad Tölz – Munich approx. 45 km
The Isar cycle path takes you through Geretsried and Wolfratshausen to Grünwald. You have to overcome a few short ascents before reaching the Bavarian capital Munich with its numerous places of interest.

Day 10: Individual departure or extension

Route features

Altogether an easy tour - a few short ascents which can also be conquered by pushing the bike. You cycle on wonderful cycle paths and small side roads, main roads only for short distances. Mostly asphalted, some longer passages also on good nature paths.
