Enjoy the valleys of Austria’s first and biggest national park…
The village Maishofen is a great source for your holiday! You explore the region around Lake Zellersee on mostly flat bike paths. Enjoy the beautiful views on the – in parts snow-covered – over 3000 meter high peaks of the Tauern. You will cycle to the unique water falls in Krimml (biggest water falls in Europe) as well as Seisenbergklamm (gorge), the national park museum in Mittersill and mining museum in Leogang. A trip to the highest mountain in Austria – the Großglockner with an altitude of 3.798 m – is worth a visit. By public bus you can reach the altitude of 2.500 m. A lot of castles and palaces are located in this area and actually you will stay in one – in hotel palace Kammer! Enjoy typical Austrian dinner after a perfect bike day and experience the Austrians and their traditions!

daily arrival
Tour course
Day 1: Individual arrival to Maishofen
Welcome drink, welcome briefing and distribution of rental bikes.
Day 2: Loop tour around Lake Zeller See approx 30 km
Via palace Prielau you reach the banks of Lake Zeller See. You cycle along the promenade to Zell am See. We recommend taking your time for a walk through the beautiful old city (pedestrian zone, historic church …). You continue your tour into the moor of Schuettdorf. Your return journey leads you along the other side of the Lake. Enjoy the admirable views on Zell am See and mountain Schmittenhöhe.
Day 3: Oberpinzgau – Mittersill – Krimml approx 40-65 km
You start your day with a ride to Zell am See. By train (ticket for about € 2, 50 per person, bike not included) you go to the region of Oberpinzgau and further to Krimml and its water falls (biggest water falls in Europe). We recommend visiting them – within about two hours you reach the top. On your return journey you cycle always downhill via Hollersbach (well-known for herbs), Stuhlfelden (palace Liechtenau, palace Habach) and Mittersill (national park museum, palace) back to your hotel. You have view possibilities to shorten your stage.
Day 4: Mining museum Leogang or Hochfilzen approx 45-70 km
You cycle via Neunbrünnen (small moor bath) to the banks of river Saalach where you continue to Leoganger Ache (creek). The mining museum will remind you of long ago times. This village is famous for its silver ore which was used for the production of the well-known “Salzburger silver taler”. This reservoir comprises 70 different types of silver (in parts even very seldom types) which can be marvelled at the museum. On your return journey you cycle along green meadows and beautiful paths.
Day 5: Mountain Großglockner approx 40 km
You cycle on a short stage via Bruck a. d. Glocknerstrasse to Fusch where you leave your bikes. Afterwards you continue by bus up to the highest mountain in Austria (not included, a ticket costs about € 19 per person). From Hochtor (2.503 m) you will definitely enjoy a breathtaking view over the surrounding mountains. You can also visit the Pasterze – longest glacier of the Eastern Alps. In the afternoon you go by bus back to Fusch and by bike along Lake Zeller See back to Maishofen.
Day 6: Seisenbergklamm (gorge) – Weißbach approx 55 km
You start with a ride to Maria Alm and Saalfelden. Along the river Saalach you reach Weißbach and the force of nature Seisenbergklamm (gorge). In 1831 there was built a 600 m long path by wood-cutters. So you are able to discover the gorge now. On your return journey you pass Lake Ritzensee and Kolling Wald (forest).
Day 7: Active regeneration
Possibility to do a guided walking tour (minimum of participants is four) onto one of the surrounding mountains. Or you do a short walking tour (for about an hour) onto Schwalbenwand where you can visit Kammer-Eck alp and enjoy an appropriate Jause. Or you combine another bike tour (approx 15 km) with playing “bike-golf”. We can also recommend visiting Salzburg which is reachable within 85 km. A Salzburg Card offers a lot of possibilities for sight-seeing and is included in the tour price.
Day 8: Individual departure or additional nights in Maishofen
Route features
In the valleys of river Salzach and Saalach the tour course is completely flat. There are just some stages if you leave the bike route. You cycle mostly on asphalted bike paths and side roads. There are just a few sections with heavier traffic.
