Tour character
Amid the Danube delta, you cycle mainly on sandy paths, gravel roads or tarmac country roads. The route is hilly and in parts you will be cycling on roads with traffic.
You cycle in a group of about 12-20 people and some cycling experience is required for this tour. Sand and gravel roads mean that you need a bit of fitness. However due to the short distances you cycle each day, the tour should be manageable for most people. It is possible to cycle further each day. Some sections are shortened by either a boat or bus ride.
The bicycle- and shiptour leads you through the Donaudelta and it's fascinating landscapes. Enjoy the preferences from Rumania on the hotel boat and a guest house.
You stay overnight on a modern hotel boat of 4**** level and in a comfortable guest house of 4**** level. Comfortable and homelike boat with restaurant and spacious sun deck with deck chairs, cabins (about 9 sqm) with shower/toilet, lounge with air-condition.
Everything about this trip was out-of-the-ordinary, from living on a floating hotel, to experiencing the wilds of the Danube delta by boat and bike, not to mention the birdwatching - hundreds of pelicans, storks, herons, white-tailed eagles, birds you can see with the naked eye, and the pretty, glossy ones such as rollers, bee-eaters, and a golden oriole. The trip was incredibly well organised and the two guides were excellent - thank you Lucian and Mihai for all your local and nature knowledge! It was also lovely to meet like-minded people (bird-watchers) from all over Europe - it was fun.
