Arrival in Salzburg
Welcome briefing and bike fitting. We recommend that you go for a stroll through the city. You can visit Mozart’s birthplace, the cathedral and the castle “Hohensalzburg”.
Cycle through Oberndorf where you will see the 'Silent Night Chapel’. You then cycle through vast alluvial forests all the way to Tittmoning. From here along the nature adventure path 'Naturerlebnisweg Unterer Inn’ to Burghausen. A magnificent old part of town and Central Europe's biggest castle complex awaits.
The beautiful forest paths in the Weilhart forest take you to the Holzöstersee. You can then continue through the Ibmer Moor to the Benedictine abbey, Michaelbeuern. In the shady beer garden there you can try the handmade Augustiner beer. You cycle via the Haunsberg to the Trumer lakes (Lake Grabensee, Mattsee, Obertrumersee or Wallersee).
Enjoy the most wonderful views over lake Mattsee on your way to the Egelsee lakes' nature reserve. From Schleedorf you do not have far to cycle to get to lake Irrsee. Cycle comfortably along its banks until you reach the renowned Mondsee with its palace, abbey church etc.
A slow-paced bike tour takes you around lake Mondsee. You also have the optional detour to lake Attersee, a deep-green lake (approx. 5 km). There is plenty of time for a swim before you cycle back along the towering sheer rockface 'Drachenwand’ (dragon’s wall) to the lake resort Mondsee. We also recommend going on a boat trip around the lake!
On this bike ride you cycle through lush meadows. The bike path leads you to Thalgau and then onwards to Eugendorf. From there you cycle on the abandoned train path of the Ischler-Bahn until you reach the river Salzach. Finally for the last few kilometres you cycle along the Tauern Cycle Path until you reach the centre of Salzburg. Do not miss enjoying a good cup of Melange in the venerable Cafè Tomaselli or sampling an original Mozartkugel, a chocolate marzipan and nougat treat in Cafè Fürst.
Whilst cycling by the lakes and along the river Salzach, the terrain is completely flat with interspersed slight hills. You mainly cycle on bike paths from lake to lake and on quiet side roads. Cycling on busier roads is unfortunately unavoidable for a few short sections of the tour.
