Cycling group on the Tauern Cycle Path

In eight days, you'll cycle the entire length of the picturesque Tauern Cycle Path. Starting from Krimml, your journey begins in the Mozart city of Salzburg, providing a magnificent contrast to the wildly beautiful nature of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The transformation of the landscape from the mountainous region to the pre-Alpine region becomes particularly evident on the stages towards Passau. Enjoy the diverse nature, the warmth of the people, and the numerous attractions that make this vacation a truly special experience.

A visit to the largest waterfalls in Europe should definitely be on your itinerary – admission to the Krimml Falls is included in the travel price. You'll cycle through the Hohe Tauern National Park to your first stage destination near Kaprun. Your cycling journey continues through Saalfelden and Lofer, leading you to the Mozart city of Salzburg.

Make sure to stop by the "Silent Night Chapel" in Oberndorf before continuing your cycling journey to Burghausen, home to the largest castle complex in Central Europe. As you travel through Upper Austria, trace the Inn River route, passing through Braunau, Obernberg, and Schärding. Take a leisurely stroll along the vibrant Silberzeile in the Baroque town and indulge in some ice cream or enjoy coffee and cake at the numerous cafes. You're now just a few kilometers away from the charming three-river city of Passau.

  • The Hohe Tauern National Park: The largest national park in the Alps spans over 1,800 square kilometers, featuring the highest mountains in Austria, a fascinating flora and fauna, and spectacular panoramas. The National Park Worlds Museum near Mittersill provides interesting insights into the formation and history of the protected area. Above all, savor the magnificent views and fantastic mountain landscapes!
  • The Festival City of Salzburg: Immerse yourself in the magic of Mozart's birthplace! Walking through the Mirabell Gardens will transport you to bygone eras, and savoring one of Salzburg's signature pastries will add sweetness to the moment. The Old Town, featuring the charming Getreidegasse, the Cathedral, and numerous other attractions, is truly a visual delight!
  • The Three-River City of Passau: The green Inn and the black Ilz converge into the blue Danube – a spectacle best experienced from above, perhaps at the Veste Oberhaus in Passau. The cathedral houses the world's largest Catholic church organ, and the narrow streets of the Old Town exude a southern European flair. The city owes this charm to Italian architects who reconstructed Passau after a devastating fire in the 17th century.

Six cycling stages span 50 to 60 kilometers each, guiding you from Krimml to Passau and completing the entire Tauern Cycle Path, covering approximately 300 kilometers. Each day, you'll kick off from your accommodation with a hearty breakfast, ensuring you approach the day's athletic endeavors with abundant energy. Our local partners will take care of the daily transportation of your luggage.

A wealth of information and intriguing facts can be found on our information page dedicated to cycling tours along the Tauern Cycle Path. In Passau, you also have the option to commence your journey along the Danube Cycle Path, which is among the most popular cycling routes in Europe. Additionally, this cycling tour is also available as a charm tour variation.
