Old half-timbered houses on the Lauch in Colmar, with flowers in the foreground

Our tour takes you right into the heart of the Alsatian wine country and to one of the prettiest cities ofthe wine route, the picturesque Colmar. Every day you will experience the diversity of this beautiful region, visiting the pearls of the Alsatian Wine Route – Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg and the ancient German and French fortresses of Breisach and Neuf-Brisach. Furthermore you will explore the famous cities Strasbourg and Mulhouse conveniently.

Itinerary at a glance

The picturesque Colmar serves as your base for excursions in Alsace, known for its wine production. You'll cycle along the panoramic route to Strasbourg, following the Rhine canal and passing through swamp forests towards Rhinau.

Arrival to Colmar, check-in at the hotel and free tour of the town.

On the short version you will leave Colmar heading north through Houssen and ride to Ribeauvillé, Hunawihr, Riquewihr and Kientzheim The longer variant takes you further through the beautiful wine villages, notably Turckheim and Eguisheim.

The cycle route takes you from Colmar to Neuf-Brisach, continuing south to the village of Ottmarsheim and its beautiful 12th century church. Next you have to enter the Hardt forest, then continue along the Hüningen canal to reach Mulhouse. After enjoying the historic centre of Mulhouse, visit museums that showcase the city's heritage. Afterwards, take the train back to Colmar.

Today you change your hotel and cycle on the canal cycle path to Marckolsheim on the Rhine and cross the Alsatian Ried, an area bordered by the Ill and Rhine and criss-crossed by numerous watercourses. The stage can be shortened by a train ride (on your own) to Sélestat.

On an asphalt cycle path along the Canal du Rhône au Rhin, you will cycle northward to Strasbourg. The cycle path ends at the 17th century Barrage Vauban. From its panoramic terrace, you have an amazing view of the old city, which you can explore via bicycle or on foot. Strasbourg owns one of France’s unique networks of cycle paths. The picturesque neighborhood “La petite France” and the magnificent Gothic cathedral are only some of the many great treasures you will come across in Strasbourg. Single-handedly you can shorten the route and take the train (optional, bikes are allowed for free).

At the foot of the Vosges peaks the vineyard start. The small but picturesque old city of Obernai is worth exploring! As is the wine-village of Barr! On the return you have the choice to visit other beautiful wine villages on the wine route, such as Mittelbergheim, Andlau, Itterswiller and Nothalten, or to shorten your itinerary to the flowered village of Stotzheim. From the many rural villages along the way, the larger city of Benfeld will be an impressive change.

This route takes you east through marshlands to the creator of this beautiful flat landscape: the Rhine. Via a large lock complex you will cycle on its other side in Germany. Through landscapes similar to the “Grand Ried”, you can make a roundtrip to the old town of Lahr. Lahr lies at the foot of the wine-hills that form the start of the mountains of the Black Forest. Over the Rhine dike, you will cycle along the marsh-forests to before  crossing with the ferry to the French border town of Rhinau. From there, it will not be far from the hotel anymore.
