This versatile cycling vacation in the tri-border region of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland caters to those who adore Lake Constance and its stunning Alpine vistas. It seamlessly combines nature relaxation with exploration of historical sites. Nature enthusiasts can savor boat tours to the Rhine Falls and the flower island of Mainau, enjoy cable car views, or experience the lakeside stage in Bregenz!

Commencing from Konstanz, your journey will take you to Reichenau Island, followed by a boat ride to the Höri Peninsula. You'll then travel along the Hochrhein to Gailingen. The following day, you'll explore the majestic Rhine Falls before making your way through Stein am Rhein and concluding the trip back in Konstanz. This exciting route includes visits to the enchanting flower island of Mainau and Radolfzell. Your adventure continues through Uhldingen and Meersburg, leading you to Friedrichshafen. Subsequently, you'll cycle through Lindau, proceed to Bregenz, and then return to Konstanz via St. Gallen.

  • Konstanz: The charming town beckons you to enjoy a relaxed walk through its historic old town. Of historical significance is the Konstanz Minster, with its first mention dating back to 780. Moreover, you have the opportunity to explore the Archaeological State Museum or marvel at the wonders of the underwater world at Sea Life.  
  • Rheinfall: The famous waterfall is a true attraction. Located in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland, it plunges from a height of 23 meters into the depths, with a width of 150 meters. When you travel by boat to the Rhine Falls rock, you can feel the power of nature. 
  • Blumeninsel "Flower Island" Mainau: This paradise island is a colorful sea of flowers with fragrant roses and giant sequoia trees. It is the third-largest island in Lake Constance. 
  • Radolfzell: This Kneipp spa town of today has roots as an ancient imperial city. It sits on the northwestern shore of Lake Constance and is definitely worth exploring.

This varied cycling tour provides ample opportunity to explore major attractions and savor delightful experiences. It's suitable for both families with children and enthusiastic cyclists, with individual stages designed to accommodate various interests and preferences.

Itinerary at a glance

Immerse yourself in the history of the region, whether it's at the Constance Cathedral, the Kneipp spa town of Radolfzell, or the pile-dwelling settlement in Uhldingen. Feel the power of nature at the Rhine Falls, and enjoy the impressive views from Pfänder near Bregenz.

Enjoy a stroll through the very well maintained old town of Constance with council house, the Munster, and the maze of little alleyways of Niederburg. Not to forget the Mediterranean harbour with famous “Imperia”. Overnight stay is in Constance.

Past Wollmatinger Ried you cycle to island Reichenau, UNESCO heritage of nature and culture since 2001. Take a boat to to Gaienhofen and cycle to Stein am Rhein .

Today you will cycle through a lovely river landscape to Schaffhausen (castle Munot). Afterwards you will visit the Rhine fall (most powerful waterfall in middle Europe).

You will pass a lot of picturesque fishing villages on your bike tour to Untersee. Overnight stay is in Constance / surroundings.

Visit the “flower island” Mainau! Afterwards you have a short bike tour via Allensbach to Radolfzell.

A lot of places of interest on your 6th day: monasteries, baroque churches and old castles. Overnight stay is in Uhldingen / Meersburg.

Today you visit baroque pilgrims church Birnau, pole-settlements in Uhldingen and then Meersburg, Hagnau and Immenstaad until you reach Friedrichshafen. Visit the Zeppelin museum and the harbour. Overnight stay is in/near Immenstaad or Friedrichshafen.

Enjoy the large fruit orchards before you reach Bavarian metropolis Lindau. Special about Lindau is the protected old town on an island. After a few kilometres you reach Austria and cycle on the lake bank into festival city Bregenz with the unique lake-stage.

Before you leave Bregenz visit the Oberstadt, which has been maintained in an excellent condition. Near Hard you cross the Rhine, rushing down from the Swiss Alps. The mouth into Lake Constance is an important natural reserve. On Swiss territory, in Altenrhein, you can see the Hundertwasser-Hall. Via Horn you cycle along the lake to harbour Rorschach.

Today you do not need your bike,you have time to visit St. Gallen or to do a Hiking tour in the area.

The last day of this interesting cycle tour is dedicated to Canton Thurgau, also called the apple-canton due to the importance of apple orchards. You cycle through tidy little villages along the lake to Constance. Overnight stay is in Constance / surroundings.
