Arrival in Kulmbach
The brewery city Kulmstadt invites you with its walls, towers and narrow alleys for a stroll. If you like it more sportive: A beautiful path leads up to fortress Plassenburg, the emblem of the city. The view is awesome. Our tip: Book an extra night at the beginning in Kulmbach and visit Bayreuth, the festival city with international reputation.
Just after Kulmbach red and white Main are meeting each other. The unimpressive and young river makes its way through the more and more opened valley. In-bedded between forest Frankenwald and Franconian Jura you cycle on silent forest and meadow paths. The beautiful city Burgkunstadt with its half-timbered houses invites for a rest. Palace Strössendorf attracts interest through its round tower and the small ponds are cooling your feet excellent. The region at Obermain is home of the basket makers. The lively city Lichtenfels shows that quite plainly. On the right side of the mountain monastery Banz is greeting you (about 3 km) and on the left side enthrones well-known basilica Vierzehnheiligen (about 8 km). In Bad Staffelstein the spa is awaiting you for regeneration. A visit of mountain Staffelberg, the mountain of Franconia makes your day perfect.
Flat Main valley misleads for fast cycling, not so far away Bamberg attracts! But you should also take your camera with you on this day, diversified landscape is awaiting you. Rejoice yourself on bloomy meadows, old fruit trees, small villages and its treasures, because Bamberg is reached quickly. The old city of Bamberg is part of the UNESCO world cultural heritage and highlight of your today’s stage. The old Episcopal city accommodates besides emperors dome, Little Venice, old city hall and a lot of other places of interest nine (!) breweries.
Some kilometers after Bamberg Main Cycle Path leads you to more vineyards next to the river. Zeil am Main radiates the charm of past times. You should also visit the city of Königsberg in Bavaria. It is a romantic small city with half-timbered houses of European level. Who likes to skip this part through typical Franconian landscapes with forests and valleys (with some grades) saves about 10 km. Your today´s aim Haßfurt invites for a stroll through the narrow alleys with beautiful views on river Main and shows rarities from former times as for example the knight chapel of Tilmann Riemenschneider.
On a relaxed path you go to Schweinfurt. You should visit the church in St. Maria where you can see the well-known Madonna which was created from Tilman Riemenschneider. Volkach is well-known for its wine: Riesling, Silvaner or Weißburgunder. Which one will you like best?
Wine is the main theme for this day! Enjoy Dettelbach with its city wall, Kitzingen with its leaning tower, Martkbreit with its picturesque gaps and Sommerhausen with its comfortable guest houses. Würzburg is located in the vineyards and awaiting you with several places of interests!
You are cycling through slightly hilly terrain from Kulmbach to Bamberg. The rest of this tour leads you along the River which is mostly flat. Some stages have to be managed (only from Kulmbach to Bamberg some hilly terrain). The paths are mostly asphalted and very well sign-posted. For beginners and families

- There are free and unguarded parking spaces in the suburban area. Public park garage for € 9 per day, a reservation is not possible.
- Transfer Würzburg – Kulmbach every Saturday about 10 a.m. Duration about 2 hours, a reservation is necessary. Price is € 60 per person incl. bike.
- Return journey Würzburg – Kulmbach by train on your own – numerous connections are available.
