A group of cyclists on a gravel cycle path across meadows, with Lake Rieg and the mountains in the background

Embarking from Munich, this cycling journey immerses you in the captivating world of Bavarian lakes. Besides the renowned Starnberger See and beloved Staffelsee, you'll also encounter the serene yet vibrant Osterseen. Each lake boasts its own unique charm, surrounded by picturesque landscapes that beckon relaxation. To contrast the serene natural beauty, you'll explore charming Bavarian villages and lively towns, brimming with historical landmarks. Whether it's delving into ornate artist houses or tracing ancient trade routes, you'll delve deep into Bavaria's intriguing history. Along the route, rustic inns invite you to savor the region's culinary treasures. Don't miss the chance to indulge in a hearty Schweinhaxen (pork knuckle) paired with a refreshing liter of beer (Maß) for a delightful culinary experience.

Commencing in Munich, your cycling journey will lead you through Forstenrieder Park towards Lake Starnberg, meandering through Bavarian villages until you arrive at Murnau on Lake Staffelsee. En route to Bad Tölz, you'll also traverse the scenic Lake Kochel and Benediktbeuern before concluding the tour by following the Isar Cycle Path, ultimately returning to Munich via Grünwald on the final day.

  • Munich: The capital city of Bavaria is ideal for a sightseeing tour. Visit the City Hall and take a stroll in the English Garden! You can end your evening at the legendary Hofbräuhaus.
  • Starnberger See: Experience a natural idyll at Lake Starnberg, which stretches for 20.2 kilometers in length and spans 4.7 kilometers in width, with depths reaching up to 127.8 meters. It is the fifth-largest lake in Germany and was formed during the last Ice Age. The crystal-clear water and the backdrop of mountains invite you to dream.
  • Murnau: In Murnau on Lake Staffelsee, you can visit the Münter-Haus. It was the home of the artist Gabriele Münter, who lived there with Wassily Kandinsky. Because Kandinsky was of Russian origin, the building was also referred to as the "Russian House"

This cycling tour is categorized as an easy route. Steep inclines are rare, and if encountered, you can effortlessly push your bike. The journey mainly follows picturesque bike paths and secondary roads, with only brief sections on main roads. As most of the route is paved, you can enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride. Furthermore, there are natural trails that are easily traversable and provide scenic views throughout your journey.
