Three cyclists in front of the Wachtenburg, surrounded by vineyards and wooded hills

Blossoming almond trees, juicy figs and kiwis, sun-kissed vineyards - are you in Italy? Sounds great, but this time we're going to Germany! You don't think so? Then come with us to the dreamlike Palatinate region, where hearty cuisine meets Mediterranean atmosphere and historically significant architecture meets lively towns. With this tour, Eurobike dedicates seven days of activity and relaxation to this special region.

Upon arrival in picturesque Neustadt an der Weinstraße, you'll dive straight into the Palatinate. Celebrate the start of your holiday with a glass of cool Riesling, after all you are in the middle of the largest Riesling growing region in the world. The first stage takes you via the cathedral city of Speyer to Germersheim. The medieval fortress with its large ramparts still characterises the townscape today.

Before heading to the Neckar city of Heidelberg on day 3, you should make a longer stop at Schwetzingen Castle and inspect the beautiful castle gardens. A veritable smorgasbord of cultures opens up here: a garden mosque, French and English influences and the Japanese cherry blossom that transforms the grounds into a sea of blossoms every spring. During the rest of the tour, you will discover the half-timbered houses in Ladenburg and the cathedral city of Worms, among others.

  • Speyer Cathedral: The foundation stone of the world-famous imperial and Marian cathedral was laid around 1030. From the Palatinate War of Succession to the French Revolution, the monumental building survived many historical events and is today considered the largest preserved church of the Romanesque period.
  • Idyll along the the Rhine: Once winding and full of loops, the Rhine was gradually straightened to make it usable for shipping. In many places, nature has reclaimed the Old Rhine and presents itself in a particularly picturesque way. Due to the shallow depth, many water plants thrive here, which in turn has led to the settlement of numerous bird species.
  • The vibrant Heidelberg can be enjoyed on the banks of the Neckar. Tip: You can put your feet in the sand on the city beach. Canoe, motorboat or boat trip - the possibilities on the water are also numerous. The castle and the Philosophenweg are also part of any city tour of Heidelberg.
  • Small winegrowing villages along the Wine Route: Bad Dürkheim, Deidesheim & Co. combine tradition and modernity as the home of Riesling. Enjoy an innovative organic wine in front of the typical half-timbered backdrop and let your trip pass in a relaxed way.

The 20 to 50 km long stages of the tour are all in all easy to cycle. The cycle paths are well developed and mostly flat, only the vineyards are naturally hilly.
