If you arrive early enough, we recommend a first cycle tour to the lakes Silser See and St. Moritzer See today already.

Sample hotel: San Gian

Cycle via Samedan (Old Tower), La Punt (early Gothic San-Andrea church with frescoes) and Zuoz (pained stained glass windows in the church San Luzi) to Zernez. The cycle path leads through the high-altitude valley of the Oberengadin region. Zernez is the gateway to the National Park (National Park house).

Sample hotel: Spöl

Initially you cycle to Lavin, which has kept the character of an old mountain village. The name of the picturesque village Guarda (‚Look’) comes from the brilliant view you can enjoy from there. Today you will stay in Scuol, with a water park «Bogn Engiadina» and Tarasp castle, the majestic landmark of the Engadin.

Sample hotel: Bellaval

From Scoul via Martina to the border. The first Austrian village Pfunds. From here transfer by bus to Nauders. There are just under 70 metres in altitude left up to the Reschen-pass. Descend towards lake  Reschensee and onwards on side tracks to Mals (centre of village with many towers) or Burgeis at the foot of the Marienburg castle.

Sample hotel: Zum Hirschen

For now on you cycle to Glurns (totally preserved medieval city wall). Via the Montani-ruins through  Schlanders and down to Merano. Castles and palaces (Juval palace owned by mountaineer Reinhold Messners) tower high above or directly on the route. Whilst cycling enjoy the view onto the impressive Ortler massif and the Stilfserjoch. Since 2004 the Vinschgaubahn between Mals and Merano is back in operation and can be used at any time to shorten a bit of the way.

Sample hotel: Flora

Via Lana (Schnatterpeck-altar) and through countless orchards and vineyards in the area of the South Tyrolean wine route past many defensive castles, palaces and ruins such as Hocheppan (significant frescoes) as well as at the ’cathedral in the countryside’ (Dom auf dem Lande) in St. Pauls all the way to lake Caldaro. You usually stay in the cosy wine town Auer.

Sample hotel: Groff

From the enchanting wine village, you cycle on flat terrain through the Adige valley or (more scenic however with bigger ascent) via the Montiggler lakes, past Sigmundskron, to Bolzano (arbour alleys, ‚Ötzi’ – museum).

Sample hotel: Scala Stiegl

Would it not be wonderful to add on a few extra days...? Great opportunity to extend your tour to Venice or Verona.

Tour character

You cycle on marvellously well-maintained cycle paths mainly along the rivers Inn and Adige. The total route descends from start to finish over nearly 1200 metres in altitude. Nevertheless, small ascents will be part of the route too. You mainly cycle on bike paths (especially in Switzerland on dirt or gravel surfaces) or on asphalted rural tracks. For very short sectionshowever you may have to cycle on roads with moderate traffic when it is unavoidable.

St Moritz to Bolzano
Very well organized tour. Everything ran flawlessly. We did self guided tour from St Moritz to Bolzano. For navigating we used a combination of the maps provided and GPX files downloaded on to my cycling computer. The combination of the two worked great and we had no problem with finding our way. I do recommend leaving early enough each morning to enjoy the day, but that is the beauty of it. Self guided means it is all up to the individual! For the price I think the accommodation was great and the baggage system worked flawlessly. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I recommend this type of tour to any one at all. We also made some fantastic friends along the way! No experience on a bike? Just get an Ebike!

Absolutely amazing trip from the snow capped mountains to the sunny italian vineyards
Absolutely picturesque scenery the whole way, and each day was so different. We loved the fact that we cycled from the snow capped ski resort (cold weather there for us unfortunately but didnt matter) all the way down the valley into the sunny apple orchids and vineyards of the South Tyrolean region. Definitely book the extra night in St Moritz if you have the time- we wish we did as there is also a lot of sightseeing, hiking, mountain biking that can be done there and it is beautiful! We would recommend requesting the gpx files to upload the maps onto your bike computer if you have one, as that saved a few wrong turns. However the route is generally well signposted and very well travelled so easy to ask for help if you get lost. Definitely recommend this route to anyone and everyone (cyclist or not!)

Great family bike trip
We traveled with our four young adult children and two friends (eight people total) from St Moritz through the Alps to Pfunds and then down through northern Italy to Verona. We had a great experience overall with the route and also the organization. Bikes: we had no mechanical problems with the bikes (8 people x 8 days, on some very rough routes as well as very hot weather), not even a flat tire. This was pretty amazing. Hotels/luggage: The hotels were all nice and the luggage arrived on time every day. Also pretty amazing. Route: The route was very beautiful, every day. Our favorite part was probably the bike paths through the Swiss Alps. But we enjoyed all of it.
