Two cyclists enjoy the view over the vineyards and the village of Alsace

A cycle tour through the vineyards makes you really hungry – and thirsty too! It is just perfect that the cycling holiday leads through the foodie heaven of Alsace! The eight-day trip through this idyllic cultural land is characterised by a relaxed lifestyle, wonderful views over the Rhine and of course wine and culinary delights. No matter whether on the cycling break in between or in the evening at the stage finish – indulgence should not be forgotten on this tour. Therefore, please do not hesitate to pay a visit to the wineries and inns in Alsace! After all, the wine tastes best where it grows.

During a cycling holiday without luggage from Eurobike, you spend eight days exploring Alsace. The cycle tour stops at the most beautiful places the region has to offer: Strasbourg, Requewihr, Colmar and Ottmarsheim are just a few of the cities in which you stay. Between? Pleasantly flat cycle paths with few climbs, idyllic rest spots and mysterious castle ruins.

  • Alsatian cuisine: The ‘Cuisine d’Alsace’ has a lot to offer, including Choucroute, the Alsatian sauerkraut with pork and sausages, or the classic tarte flambee. The culinary experience is rounded off with high-quality wines from the region.
  • Idyllic landscape on the Rhine: The Rhine meadows and the hilly landscape of the wine route exude a relaxed serenity that will certainly be transferred over to you as you cycle!
  • High-quality cycle paths: Almost the entire cycle tour leads along well-signposted cycle paths.

The cycle tour begins with your own journey to Strasbourg and ends on the eighth day in the largest city in Alsace. In between there are sporty and active days on the bike, covering a total of 320 kilometres. You ride between 25 and 70 kilometres a day on cycle paths, or even in the vineyards. A short stop at one of the excellent winegrowers is worthwhile!

A shorter cycle tour can also be booked. Just ask the competent Eurobike team for tips on the tour in Alsace! The Eurobike extra: we will send you extensive tour material, including GPS data, before you travel. For an even more comfortable travel experience.

Arrival in Strasbourg

You leave Strasbourg on the cycle path along the Rhone-Rhine Canal, and reach Osthouse and Selestat respectively, both rich in remarkable architectural heritage.

After visiting the beautiful baroque abbey of Ebersmunster, you will pass through the traditional villages of the Ried. This area, bordered by the Ill and the Rhine, is criss-crossed by several waterways where a rich flora and fauna thrive. After following the canal, you reach Colmar, a city of art with an exceptionally well-preserved historic centre.

The cycle route takes you from Colmar to Neuf-Brisach, the Vauban stronghold, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You continue south to reach the village of Ottmarsheim with its beautiful 12th century Romanesque church. Through the Hardt forest and along the Rhone-Rhine canal, you reach Mulhouse, a city that dynamically combines tradition and modernity. This industrial and technical city awaits you with its famous automobile museum.

The route leads to Guebwiller, a wine village at the foot of the Grand Ballon. You will first drive to Ungersheim to visit the "Ecomusée d'Alsace", a real open-air museum organised like an early 20th century Alsatian village. The Murbach Monastery, which was one of the richest and most influential in the Holy Roman Empire, could be your favourite of the day.

You will travel along the Wine Route, a mythical route with exceptional landscapes and wine towns enlivened by passionate winemakers. At the foot of the Vosges Mountains are the incredibly charming villages that have established the reputation of Alsace's Grands Crus: Eguisheim, Turckheim, Kaysersberg and Riquewihr. They are among the most beautiful and well-known villages on the Wine Route.

Still along the wine route, you will discover the villages of Hunawihr, Ribeauville, Bergheim, Andlau and its Romanesque abbey before arriving in Obernai or Barr. Each of these villages offers many opportunities for visits dedicated to biodiversity, culture and local folk arts and traditions.

In Rosheim, the Alsatian Romanesque experience reaches a climax with the 12th century church of St. Peter and St. Paul. Then you follow the Canal de la Bruche to Strasbourg. Departure.
