A wooden walkway on a leafy cliff with a view of houses and the sea

Porto and Lisbon are two vibrant, bustling cities nestled in the Portuguese sun. Your tour will revolve around sightseeing, cultural enjoyment and exquisite cuisine. In between, you'll discover opportunities for active relaxation as you travel along the coast on your cycle tour on the Portuguese west coast, pass through charming towns and immerse yourself in fascinating natural landscapes. Treat yourself to the catch of the day in the fishing towns and sample the world-famous Port wine. Eurobike's bike tours seamlessly combine sport, pleasure and the discovery of new experiences - join us on this adventure on two wheels!

About 250 kilometers of cycling await you on this journey, divided into six daily stages. After exploring Porto on the arrival day, you'll head towards the Atlantic coast and Furadouro, crossing the Douro River. On Day 2, you'll first cycle through the São Jacinto Nature Reserve before taking a ferry to the lagoon city of Aveiro.

Ahead of you await expansive beaches, picturesque coves, and breathtaking cliffs. As you journey through Praia de Mira and Figueira da Foz, you'll arrive at the architecturally enchanting Sintra, your penultimate overnight stop in Cascais. The waterfront promenade and the historic old town of this charming fishing village beckon you to leisurely wander and explore. On the last leg of your journey, you'll pass by the Belem Tower before reaching your destination in Lisbon.

  • The lagoon city of Aveiro: The university city is often referred to as the Venice of Portugal. It's no wonder! Situated amidst a lagoon, Aveiro is crisscrossed by numerous canals, offering the opportunity to take a ride on a Moliceiros boat. In addition to a thriving trade, salt harvesting is also part of the city's history – be sure to look out for the salt pans in the surrounding area.
  • The charm of the Portuguese Atlantic coast: Portugal is considered one of the sunniest corners of Europe, ensuring a rewarding vacation, almost all year round. Along your route, you'll discover numerous fishing villages that have a unique charm. The picturesque Cabo Mondego lighthouse is just one of the many attractions along the coast.
  • Tradition and the contemporary in Lisbon: The city on the Tagus River with the widely visible reddish suspension bridge will enchant you in no time. Lisbon was built on seven hills, so you'll have to tackle some slopes – or use the city's elevators (Ascensores). You'll have a magnificent view from Castelo de São Jorge and Miradouro da Graça. Be sure to take a ride on tram line 28, as it passes by numerous points of interest.

When planning our routes, our team of experts places a strong emphasis on using well-marked bike paths or less-traveled secondary roads. The individual stages are designed to be of manageable length, typically spanning from 35 to 45 kilometers, and you may encounter occasional hilly terrain. So, saddle up, and let us handle the rest for you. Your hosts will be present every day to take care of your luggage, which we will transport on your behalf. You will receive a comprehensive information package that includes everything from travel documents to GPS data. And in case you ever require assistance, your dedicated point of contact is just a phone call away.

Whether on the mainland or on the flower island of Madeira, the mild climate is ideal for cycling holidays in Portugal. Explore the destination and start planning your next tour in your mind.

Itinerary at a glance

Porto and Lisbon alone are worth the journey. But on your travels you will find a lot more to admire too. Steep cliffs, sandy beaches and picturesque town centres will delight you.

Take a stroll along the Douro riverbank and make sure to try a glass of the famous port today.

Hotel (example): Neya Porto

In the morning you will cross the Douro and cycle past the port cellars. After this, you will head away from the hustle and bustle of the city and towards the quiet Atlantic coast. Going past fine sandy beaches and through extensive pine forests you will head south. Today’s final destination is well known for its hospitality and excellent fish. Have a good time!

Hotel (example): Furadouro Beach & Spa

There is a lot of nature to be admired on today’s stage. You will cycle through the Aveiro lagoon and while doing so you will be surrounded by water. Do some bird watching at São Jacinto Dunes Natural Reserve or watch the salt extraction at the salt works. A ferry will then take you to Aveiro, a place considered as the “Portuguese Venice” due to its canals and its famous Moliceiro boats.

Hotel (example): Melia Aveiro

The bike path along the Aveiro lagoon will lead you to Costa Nova. The colourfully-striped beach houses are a popular backdrop for holiday photos. You continue cycling leisurely towards the South and soon you will reach today’s destination. Take a stroll along the kilometre-long sandy beach and enjoy the atmosphere at this peaceful seaside resort.

Hotel (example): Macarico Beach

You cycle through a dune landscape on gentle hills. Crickets chirp in the pine forest and soon you will see the first cliff ahead of you. The road leads spectacularly towards the Cabo Mondego lighthouse and then further on towards Figueira da Foz, which is a charming little town with lots of restaurants, decorative alleys, slow-paced cafes and of course a beautiful beach.

Hotel (example): Costa de Prata

In the morning you transfer to royal Sintra where you will find many palaces and stately homes. From here it’s a rushing descent back towards the coast. Wonderful views of the sea and dreamy sandy bays make the odd climb on the way to Cascais worth it. At the end of the day, you will be welcomed by the lovely promenade to the stylish town of Cascais.

Hotel (example): Eurostars

The cycle path runs right along the shore to Estoril. After that you will soon reach the mouth of the River Tagus. The famous Belem Tower lies directly en route after which you will ride underneath Lisbon’s landmark, the mighty suspension bridge. Continue along the banks of the Tagus to your hotel in the modern district of Oriente.
