Do you have questions about this tour?

Nestled between gently rolling wooded hills and elegant spa towns, this journey is a true treat for body and soul. Cycling along the Ohře River and through the Slavkov Forest (Kaiserwald) Nature Reserve, you’ll pass tranquil landscapes cherished for centuries for their crisp air and healing springs. With two-night stays in each town, there’s ample time to fully soak in the refined spa atmosphere — whether sampling mineral waters or strolling beneath magnificent colonnades. Elegant architecture, bubbling fountains, and historic estates whisper stories of a grand past. Cultural treasures, including the Reliquary of St. Maurus and the historic castle chapel in Cheb, add the perfect finishing touches. This is a journey defined by active discovery, cultural indulgence, and the art of slowing down.

Itinerary at a glance

Cycle through Bohemia’s renowned spa towns, enjoy the restorative springs, and uncover cultural treasures such as Cheb and Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad). A journey that perfectly balances activity and relaxation, with time for nature, history, and serene moments of indulgence.

Carlsbad welcomes you with elegant spa architecture and a rich history. Founded in the 14th century by Emperor Charles IV, the town is now one of the Czech Republic’s most prestigious spa destinations. Twelve thermal springs — and, as the “thirteenth,” the famous Becherovka herbal liqueur — shape the cityscape, alongside magnificent colonnades, fine porcelain, and a lively festival tradition.

In the morning, take the train up into the Ore Mountains, where wide plateaus and dense forests meet a rich mining history. From the 16th century onward, silver — and later uranium — mining shaped this region, which is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The route passes through Jáchymov (Sankt Joachimsthal) and the historic Mauritius Mine, descending gently back to Carlsbad. Alternatively, you can enjoy a more relaxed wellness day in town.

From Carlsbad, follow the course of the Ohře River through the quiet valley of the Slavkov Forest (Kaiserwald) Nature Reserve. Dramatic rock formations at the Hans-Heiling Rocks and the striking Loket Castle add memorable highlights along the way. Passing through Sokolov with its historic center, you arrive in Franzensbad. This elegant 19th-century spa town still preserves the charm of its bygone bathing culture — the perfect place to unwind after a rewarding day of cycling.

Today offers you the freedom to shape your own day. While you can relax and soak in the restorative spa atmosphere, a variety of cycling routes take you through a historically rich border region. Castles, palaces, and fortresses line your path through landscapes that once marked the boundary between the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of Bohemia. Traces of the Iron Curtain also serve as a reminder of more recent history — a striking contrast between “Old Europe” and the modern era.

Just a few kilometers from Franzensbad, you reach the historic town of Cheb, once a gateway between the Holy Roman Empire and Bohemia. Passing Romanesque castles, the Stöckl of Cheb, and quiet villages, you continue through picturesque landscapes. A pilgrimage site, Kynžvart Castle (Schloss Königswart), and the elegant Kinsberg Castle line the route before you arrive in the traditional spa town of Marienbad.

A challenging climb awaits this morning — though you can choose a more relaxed start by taking the ski lift. Once at the top, cycle along tranquil paths to the 12th-century Teplá Monastery, renowned for its breathtaking historic library. Riding through the lush Slavkov Forest (Kaiserwald), you’ll reach Petschau, where the castle houses the priceless Reliquary of St. Maurus, one of the country’s most significant treasures. Finally, return to Marienbad either by bike or via a scenic train ride.
