Cycle break at Seeon Monastery

Salzburg, Chiemsee, Königssee, the Watzmann - the list of destinations and attractions along our Eurobike tour through Chiemgau reads fabulously, doesn't it? So many world-famous beauties, plus great food, friendly people, lots of nature and culture - all this and an active trip where you do something for your health. Wonderful!

On the day of your arrival, explore the "Bavarian Sea" before the tour takes you first via the imposing Hohenaschau Castle to Walchsee in Austria. The beautiful promenade in the tranquil town invites you to stroll and swim. Ruhpolding sounds familiar? Perhaps from the annual Biathlon World Cup. Enjoy the warm water in the Rupertus-Therme in Bad Reichenhall before the 4th stage takes you to Berchtesgaden and the popular Königssee.

As if that were not enough, the route leads to the Mozart city of Salzburg. Whether Mozartkugel, Kaiserschmarrn or Wiener Schnitzel - in addition to the numerous sights, a proper snack should not be neglected. In 1818, the song "Silent Night" was sung for the first time in Oberndorf, the stage destination on day 5. Back at Lake Chiemsee, you still have a round trip around the beautiful body of water, which invites you to swim and enjoy.

  • Herreninsel and Fraueninsel on the Chiemsee: So different and yet somehow connected. Each of the islands has its very own history. While a castle sits enthroned on Herrenchiemsee, the Benedictine nuns ran a convent on Frauenchiemsee.
  • Impressive Alpine panorama: Wherever you cast your gaze, the mountains provide simply perfect natural scenery on this tour. There's something calming and exhilarating about admiring the sunset over the mountains in the evening after completing a stage.
  • The Watzmann above the Königssee: It is certainly one of the most beautiful lakes in Germany. Its backdrop makes it something very special. Visit the small church of St. Bartholomä, hike to the Obersee and take a trip by electric boat.
  • The Mozart city of Salzburg is always worth a visit, whether you've been before or are a newbie. A hike to the Hohensalzburg Fortress or strolling through the Getreidegasse - or why not just do both?

This tour takes you along a wonderful route and past numerous highlights of the region, yet it is one of the hillier routes in our repertoire. The stages with lengths between 20 and 65 kilometres leave enough time to explore the beauty of the surroundings. It is a pleasure to inhale the clear air while cycling and to merge with nature. Hope on the saddle and cycle with us through the Chiemgau!

The mountains will get higher and higher, but the cycling route continues to be nearly flat when you get closer to them. You will cycle through Aschau with its palace which can be seen from far away lying at the foot of the Chiemau mountains, and past the Kampenwand on Priental cycle path towards Tyrol. In Austria you can take a break at idyllic Lake Walchsee, before you will pass the german-austrian border again to reach the climatic spa town of Reit im Winkl with its typical Bavarian alpine atmosphere.

Hotel (example): Landhaus Lenzenhof

Narrow between the mountains the routing will take you along the German Alpine Road. On Mozart Cycle Path you will get past Lake Weitsee and with a little luck you can see a famous biathlon athlete in Ruhpolding during their summer trainings. You can have a lunch break in Inzell, another famous climatic spa town with its famous Lüftlmalerei, before you cycle via Schneitzlreuth along river Saalach to famous spa town Bad Reichenhall. What about a bit of „wellness“ in thermal bath or a ride with the legendary and oldest cable car of the world to the Predigtstuhl, 1.600m above sealevel.

Hotel (example): Hotel Almrausch

Today a short stage with lots of time to enjoy the fantastic views on Watzmann mountain on your way to Berchtesgaden. The Obersalzberg or famous Kehlsteinhaus is definitely worth a visit. Or you can cycle a couple of kilometres more along Königssee ache to reach famous Lake Königssee with the possibility to have a boat ride and the visit of Bartholomä monastery on the foothills of Watzmann.

Hotel (example): Hotel Alpina Ros

Along Königssee ache you will pass the Bavarian-austrian border again and then you only have some pedal rotations more to reach Salzburg with its many attractions. After an extensive visit of Salzburg you will cycle relaxed on the Tauern Cycle Path along river Salzach until you reach charming Laufen and Oberndorf with its famous „Silent Night Chapel“. Have a nice stroll in the evening at the riverside to end your day.

Hotel (example): Hotel Alt Oberndorf - Bauernbräu

The first part of the cycle tour will lead you through small villages and farms to Lake Waging and further along river Traun and to Traunstein. The town is famous for its small Hofbrauhaus. Romantic Lake Tüttensee is on your way to the lakeside of Chiemsee. You will follow the way around Lake Chiemsee back to the start of your tour.

Hotel (example): Hotel Alter Wirt Bernau

The Chiemsee circular path is beautifully designed. It leads you to secluded swimming bays as well as to densely populated lakeside resorts. Whilst cycling comfortably along the lakeside, marvel at the stunning views across the lake. For extensive breaks along the way you come across many shady beer gardens along the lakeside. You also have the option of shortening part of the daily tours with a special bike-bus (on your own).

Overall, a slightly hilly route with few steep ascents. Beautiful routing on cycle paths and calm side roads. Very short sections on streets with more traffic.
