Danish Baltic Sea
Cycle tour around Little Belt.
- 8 Days / 7 Nights
- Self-guided Tour
Arrival in Sønderborg
Your cycling holiday in Denmark begins in Sønderborg on the Flensburg Fjord, not far from Germany. Visit the castle of the same name, one of the oldest royal castles in Jutland, built directly on the water
Today‘s route is relaxed and takes you through forests and wide fields over the Sundewitt peninsula. A visit to Sandbjerg Castle, one of the most elegant palaces in Southern Jutland, is worthwhile. Åbenrå captivates with its charming town houses and craftsmen‘s houses.
Today's first destination is Haderslev. The medieval old town on the Hadersleven dam entices you with cosy cafés and a walk along the reservoir, which dates back to the Middle Ages. Back on your bike, you can choose between two routes: You can take a shorter domestic route or challenge yourself by following the Baltic Sea Cycle Path, the Østersøruten, to the coast, passing the small coast town of Hejlsminde, which is definetly worth a visit, before you reach Christiansfeld.
You can choose between two varied routes that take you across fields and forests or along the coast to Kolding. There you are already greeted from afar by Koldinghus Castle, which towers high above the town. Past Kolding Fjord and across Skærbæk you cross the Little Belt on Lillebæltsbroen, a road and railway bridge, just before you reach Middelfart, your destination for today.
Visit the Henner Friisers Hus in Middelfart. It is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in Denmark. You cycle almost ascent-free through the idyllic landscapes of Funen until you reach Odense.
Odense is the third largest city in Denmark. The city‘s most famous son is the writer Hans Christian Andersen. He is commemorated in many places in the city. This stage of your cycle tour takes you along Odense Å via Funen to Fåborg.
With its narrow, cobbled streets, Fåborg is one of the oldest and most idyllic small towns in Denmark. In Bøjden you board the ferry to the island of Als and then cycle via the harbour town of Høruphav to Sønderborg.
Departure or extension
The route is slightly hilly without significant gradients. The cycle paths often lead along the coast. Depending on your desire, mood and cosiness, you can choose between a longer and a shorter distance almost every day.
