Itinerary

You start the tour in the magnificent old Hanseatic city of Lubeck which was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

You are offered splendid views of Lubeck and the Neustadt bay. On your way you pass the seaside resorts of Timmendorfer Strand and Scharbeutz and also Germany’s oldest lighthouse in Travemunde.

Along the Mecklenburg Bay to the coastal resort of Gromitz with its 400 m long pier and 8 km long sandy beach. The pretty old town of Heiligenhafen and the remarkable salt storehouse are worth an evening stroll.

Via Oldenburg, passing old mansions and ‘Knicks’, Schleswig-Holstein’s traditionally grown hedges. Through untouched nature and former salt marshes to Schonberg.

From Laboe you take the ferry to Friedrichsort. Along the fjords through the „Schwedeneck“ (the Swede‘s corner) through meadows and small forests to Eckernforde.

You cycle north via the „Schwansen“ peninsula to Kappeln, through cute little villages and the Baltic resort of Damp. Visit the great smock mill, the „Heringszaun“ (hering fence) and the harbour.

Through „Angeln“, the land between the „Schlei“ and Flensburg and further along the Flensburg fjords to the Renaissance castle in Glucksburg. From there you take the boat to Flensburg.

Tour character

Mainly on level ground, sometimes slightly hilly, mostly on quiet country roads, cycle paths, field and forest trails, occasionally on sandy tracks, concreted paths and on cobblestone. The route is not always along the coast but takes frequent swings into the varied countryside further inland.

Flat and beautiful
The journey was very beautiful and the biking was mostly on flat roads with not so many climbs. Since it was above 30 deg C it was quite demanding but as the route was close to the coast most of the time one could stay at a beach whenever one wished for it. Compared to our previous bike travels the descriptions was not very good here. Several times we took the wrong path due to that there were no details in the description and on our map details like street names etc. were missing. Except from some misspellings in the travel documents we missed better descriptions where the route was unclear. What should also be stated is that noone (at least very rare) takes credit-cards anywhere. We are used to that everyone takes credit-cards (even on beaches) in Sweden but without cash here you will have no food or ice-cream. Overall a good journey but overpriced in regards to what we recieved in terms of descriptions and accomodation standard. Only AC in 1 of the hotels we stayed at. The electric bikes that we had were both good, no problem with range. It would have been good if the bikes were of the same type though. Not much traffic on the route and the most time was spent on bike lanes.

Thanks a lot for your kind words and your nice feedback! It's always a pleasure to read that our guests were satisfied with our tours! In Germany it isn´t standard that you can pay on the beach by credit card for ice cream or some small things also most of the hotels in Germany do not have a AC.

Gut organisiert, gut ausgewählte Hotels, Reiseunterlagen perfekt, Tourenbuch bestens. Negativ kann nur das Wetter sein. Wenn gut wie bei uns: tolle Tour.
