The Cycling Stages – Fascinating Sceneries

Daily Loop Tours to Lake Ossiacher See - and Lake Faakersee

Villach is perfect for this cycle holiday as a place of arrival and departure. From here you start two loop tours to Lake Ossiachersee and Lake Faakersee, where you stay in the same hotel in the evening. Here you get the feeling of becoming one with nature. But in addition to the attractive excursion destinations that can be explored by bike, Villach also invites you to stay and linger. In addition to localities and great restaurants, you can get to know the local cuisine in inns, stroll through the beautiful pedestrian zone with an ice cream or simply relax on the Drau riverbanks.

Discover Lake Wörthersee, Lake Klopeiner See and St. Veit

The other cycling stages to Klagenfurt on Lake Wörthersee, Lake Klopeiner See, to St. Veit and back to Villach can very easily be mastered by bike with a basic fitness level. Here, too, are wonderful sections along the river Drau, the lakes, through individual forest areas, with a view of Hochosterwitz castle and much more. For very warm weather there are enough opportunities to enjoy a swim and refreshment points where you can replenish your water bottles during a cycle tour.

Perfect location of the hotels

The Hotel Palais 26 in Villach welcomed us with open arms from the start. The location right in the pedestrian zone, such a perfect location, staff always tried hard from morning to morning and were very friendly. The 4****-hotel impresses with its stylish furnishings, delicious breakfast and great wellness offers. A real feel-good place, especially as you spend four nights in Villach on the cycle holiday. In Klagenfurt too, the 3***-Cityhotel welcomed us with its doors wide open after a quick dip in Lake Wörthersee. A small traditional house, which is located not far from the ‚Lindwurm‘ (Klagenfurt’s landmark). Particularly worth mentioning is the breakfast. It really caters for all gourmets amongst you. Sustainability and regionality are also very important.

Family hotel at Lake Klopeiner See

Once arrived at Lake Klopeiner See, we moved into our accommodation, the 3***-hotel Alex. A family-run hotel with a very nice hostess. Here we did not stay very long as the hot summer weather drove us towards the lake, where we made ourselves comfortable on our own jetty with loungers and parasols.

Interesting art hotel

Last but not least, the 4****- art hotel Fuchspalast. We have stayed in quite a few hotels, but we have never stayed in an artistically inspired hotel like this one. On the outside a picturesque work of art and modern meets artistic elements such as old pictures on the inside.

Culinary Delicacies

Anyone who has read my hiking report on Salzburg peaks and Kitzbühel Alps knows that my focus when travelling is always on the local cuisine. Culture means more than just getting to know the sights and locals. That is why I was really looking forward to the national dish, the Carinthian ‚Kasnudeln‘. And what can I say, our expectations were exceeded. Although they are quite a heavy rustic dish and not suitable for every day, they are a must to taste during any trip through Carinthia. Apart from that, we also enjoyed regional fish and home cooking. Just like in every other respect Carinthia also inspires with culinary delights.

Summary of our cycle holiday in Carinthia

If you do not want to miss out on your annual beach holiday and also want to be active in sports, you should definitely visit Carinthia. The combination of sport, relaxation and nature makes this holiday something very special. The crystal-clear, sparkling and invigorating lakes not only impress with their beautiful appearance but also have drinking water quality. The Austrian Riviera!
