Dresden, Wittenberg, Dessau, Magdeburg
Follow the Elbe Cycle Path from Dresden to Magdeburg through flat to slightly hilly terrain. Discover baroque Dresden, the sandstone formations of Saxon Switzerland, Meissen's porcelain manufactory, and Luther's Wittenberg. Cycle through vineyards along the Saxon Wine Route, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Wörlitz Garden Realm and Bauhaus buildings in Dessau. Daily stages range from 25 to 85 km on mostly car-free paths along Germany's most scenic river landscapes.
The Elbe River has always been a magnet for great architects. Baroque masterpieces such as Dresden's Frauenkirche, Zwinger, and Semperoper were built along its course. In Meissen, you will encounter medieval flair, in Torgau the charm of the Renaissance, and in Wittenberg the heritage of the Reformation. Nature also shows itself to be a creative force: the Elbe Sandstone Mountains impress with bizarre rock formations – a true natural wonder. You decide where your journey ends: after seven days in Wittenberg? After eight in Dessau, where the Bauhaus anniversary puts the famous Gropius buildings in the spotlight? Or after nine in Magdeburg? Each of these cities is a worthy conclusion.
Daily routes from 25 to 85 km in flat and slightly hilly terrain. The Elbe cycle path offers the possibility to cycle on car-free roads along one of the most beautiful and most important rivers in Germany. Other sections lead along small country roads and paths with less traffic through diversified river landscape.
