The Upper Middle Rhine Valley, renowned for its numerous castles, charming wine-growing villages, and stunning river-carved landscapes, is a highly sought-after travel destination. At Eurobike, we've crafted a seven-day cycling tour to explore this beautiful region. You'll trace the paths of the Romans and sample the area's finest wines. Mainz, Koblenz, Bonn, and Cologne each offer captivating architecture, rich culture, and delightful culinary experiences.

The Upper Middle Rhine Valley is easily accessible from Mainz, where you'll be greeted by the majestic river and charming wine villages on your way to Rüdesheim. A highlight of your journey comes during the second stage to St. Goar, where you'll encounter the legendary Loreley. Along the route, you'll pass historic castles and palaces, including the impressive Marksburg Castle, before arriving comfortably in Koblenz. Take a leisurely stroll along the Moselle and Rhine rivers and visit the Deutsches Eck before continuing your adventure.

The region is renowned not just for its wines but also for its therapeutic waters and thermal springs. Enjoy a visit to a local winegrower or indulge in a relaxing spa before heading to Bad Godesberg for your next stop. The final leg of your journey begins here, taking you first to Bonn and then to Cologne, the cathedral city on the Rhine. Make sure to allow plenty of time to explore Cologne thoroughly before you head home.

  • The City of Printing and Carnival: The charming old town of Mainz, with its well-preserved half-timbered houses and cozy squares, is perfect for a leisurely stroll. A standout attraction is the stunning St. Martin's Cathedral, a prime example of Romanesque architecture. Additionally, the numerous wine taverns and gardens provide the perfect setting to savor exceptional Rheinhessen wines.
  • The UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley: In 2002, the region was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its exceptional blend of natural beauty, historical depth, and cultural importance. The area is defined by the dramatic Rhine slopes with terraced vineyards, more than 40 medieval castles and palaces, and picturesque historic towns and villages.
  • Cathedral, Views, and Kölsch: Cologne is one of Germany's oldest cities, renowned primarily for its impressive cathedral. The urban experience is further enhanced by the spectacular panoramic view from the KölnTriangle and top-notch shopping opportunities. Be sure to try a Kölsch beer in one of the city's distinctive bars and get to know the local vibe.

Enjoy short stages along the scenic and captivating river route, where nature, cities, and culture blend seamlessly. You'll stay in comfortable hotels and have ample time to savor the journey. Our team will provide detailed travel documents, and our service hotline is always available for any assistance you need.

Germany's longest river spans 1,232 kilometers, offering a variety of travel options and routes. Eurobike takes you along the Rhine Cycle Route, exploring not just Germany but also Switzerland, France, and the Netherlands.

Itinerary at a glance

In Mainz, you'll encounter the legacy of the Romans, emperors, and electors. Numerous castles, palaces, and vineyards line the path through the Rhine Valley to Koblenz, and before reaching Cologne, you'll also visit the beautiful city of Bonn.

We recommend arriving early to Mainz! The Roman-Germanic central and the Gutenberg museum, the imperial palace and the elector castle should be visited.

Welcome to the UNESCO world cultural heritage Upper Middle Rhine valley! Your first stage leads you through soft vineyards and well-known wine villages. Here the Rhine still flows unhurried and shape small romantic island and expand his stream bed to a latitude of 800 m. If you want to visit Eltville or monastery Eberbach you have to cycle approx. 15 km more. In Rüdesheim you have several possibilities: a wine tasting, an excursion through the well-known Drossel-vannel, a relaxed journey to the Niederwald monument by cable-car

Gorgeous fortresses are awaiting you today! We recommend walking up the Loreley where you will have a beautiful view towards the romantic Rhine valley.

Your route leads you to Boppard where you can go by chair lift up into densely wooded and silent altitudes. Or you visit Marksburg and castle Stolzenfels on your way to Coblenz.

Today you will come to sanitaria, inviting wine villages, thermal spas and beer gardens. Or maybe you want to rest today? No problem, you can go by ship from Coblenz to Bad Godesberg as well.

Spend some time in Bonn which is on your way to Cologne. As soon as you see the Cologne dome you are not too far away from your hotel. There is enough time left for this beautiful city with its many places of interests!
