Two islands at the Baltic Sea

You start in the old Hanseatic city of Stralsund. Its former importance as a trading city can still be seen in the old town, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The island of Rügen, the largest in Germany, is quickly reached by train from Stralsund. On the outskirts of the city, on the 91-meter high Rugard the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Tower, from which you have a beautiful view of the entire island of Rügen. Look forward to Rügen‘s largest seaside resort in Binz and to Rügen‘s longest pier in Sellin, which extends almost 400 metres into the sea. Today‘s destination, Göhren, awaits with long beaches of the finest sand imaginable.

The Mönchgut peninsula is surrounded but the Baltic Sea on three sides and is one of Rügen’s insider tips. The diverse landscape has a lot to offer and it means that you can spontaneously decide what you feel like doing: a relaxed day on the beach or small walk through sand dunes, moor land and forests. Whatever you pick, you are sure to enjoy it!

From Göhren with the „furious Roland“ to Putbus, from there to Glewitz. By ferry to Stahlbrode and further on to the old Hanseatic City Greifswald.

Keep going along the Baltic Seat o Lubmin with a great beach and a big pine forest. Then to Wolgast with its historical city center partly situated on an island.

You cycle along the „Krumminer Wiek“ to the Baltic resort of Zinnowitz and further along the coast. You will find many bathing spots on your way to Mellenthin or Heringsdorf.

The Baltic Sea Cycle Route leads you today to the Szczecin Lagoon. First, you will cycle to the town of Usedom, the historic center of the island. Visit the Anklam Gate with its local museum and the impressive St. Mary's Church before boarding the ferry to Kamp in Karnin. During the short crossing, you will notice the Karnin Lift Bridge, a remnant of a former railway bridge. Close to the shores of the Szczecin Lagoon, you will reach your destination, Ueckermünde. The town offers a charming old town and an expansive sandy beach.

Today, you will continue cycling along the Baltic Sea coast. It is worth making your first stop in Lubmin, where you can lose track of time on the beautiful beach and in the large, shady pine forest, as it is not far to your destination for today. If you are staying overnight in Karlshagen, you can take the ferry from Freest to Peenemünde (not inclusive.) and shorten the stage a little (-15 km).

A magnificent avenue of chestnut trees leads you from Mellenthin along challenging cycle paths to the Lieper Winkel peninsula. It is located between the Achterwasser and Peenestrom rivers. The most famous village on the peninsula is Rankwitz. Thatched half-timbered houses and fishermen‘s cottages give the village that certain something. In the tranquillity of the seemingly endless forests and fields of the peninsula, you cycle past the 700-year-old Suckow oak tree. It is over 20 metres tall, its crown is 30 metres wide and its trunk is 6.50 metres long.
