Zeeland – based in one hotel

Fishing villages, nature reserves and the sea

6 Days / 5 Nights

Explore one of the most beautiful regions in the Netherlands with Eurobike over six days: Zeeland captivates with its relaxing coastal atmosphere, picturesque fishing villages, and culinary delights that will fuel you for the kilometers ahead. Your hotel provides first-class relaxation, while during the daily stages, you'll discover the various corners of this stunning province.

Zierikzee, your starting point for each day's journey, is a city rich in history where you can immerse yourself in culture, architecture, and diverse gastronomy during your holiday. On day 2, you'll explore some of the Zeeland islands, passing by the windmills in Colijnsplaat and visiting the Delta Works. The Grevelingenmeer is the largest saltwater lake in western Europe. Take in the extraordinary nature and wildlife as you stroll around the lake before concluding the day at the restaurants of Bruinisse.

On the third leg of the journey, you'll explore the Oosterschelde nature reserve, offering splendid opportunities for birdwatching and relaxation. Goes, meanwhile, beckons with cultural experiences and shopping - it's worth noting the Dutch are known for their fashion sense! Your Day 5 destination is Veere, a charming, historic town perfect for leisurely strolls. A boat tour on the Verse Meer marks the tranquil conclusion of your journey.

  • The imposing Delta Works refers to a system of dikes, locks, and dams designed to protect the adjacent provinces from storm surges and flooding. Thirteen structures, spanning approximately nine kilometers, shield the region from unwelcome inundation in case of emergencies.
  • The flora and fauna around the Grevelingenmeer: For a long time, the Grevelingen was a bay. Through the construction of dams, it was turned into a lake, with its salt content closely resembling that of the sea. During your circuit around it, you may be fortunate enough to spot wild horses or seals.
  • The Zeeland Bridge: As you pause in the middle of the over five-kilometer-long bridge, surrounded by the sea, a salty breeze tousles your hair, and you feel a sense of boundless freedom.

During our Zeeland Tour, you'll settle into a comfortable accommodation in Zierikzee which serves as your base for each stage. Like spokes on a wheel, the daily rides lead you in all directions, allowing for a pleasant exploration of the region. Well-maintained cycle paths make the 50 to 70-kilometer daily routes easier, and a boat tour in Veere adds a delightful change of pace.

If you enjoy discovering new places during your vacation but don't want to pack your bags constantly, consider our Based in one Hotel Tours. You can find more information about them on our website. Itinerary at a glance

Zeeland offers historic towns, extensive nature reserves and impressive delta works. Combined with beautiful sandy beaches and culinary delights from the sea, these are the best ingredients for an unforgettable cycling vacation.

Zierikzee is a harbor town with a rich history. There are more than 500 monuments to admire. The small boutiques are great for shopping. And you can find peace and relaxation at the beautiful harbor.

Your first cycling excursion takes you over the Zeeland Bridge. This impressive structure is over five kilometers long and connects the islands of Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland. You soon reach the small fishing village of Colijnsplaat, known for the wetlands between the dykes. There are two windmills in the village. On your way back, you will pass the impressive Delta Works. The largest storm surge barrier in the world consists of a total of 13 structures. An impressive construction of dams, dykes and locks. You can visit sea lions and seals in Deltapark Neeltje Jans. And in the coastal town of Burgh-Haamstede you will find one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the Netherlands.

Today you will circumnavigate the Grevelingenmeer, the largest saltwater lake in Western Europe. Breathtaking natural landscapes with special flora and fauna await you. You will discover wild horses, seals and seals. Near Ouddorp, you will find several sandy beaches that are perfect for a quick swim. And the fishing village of Bruinisse is known for its many restaurants, which serve delicious mussels in season.

First you cycle along the coast in the Oosterschelde nature reserve, the largest national park in the Netherlands. The Oosterschelde is an important bird sanctuary. It is also home to porpoises and is a breeding ground for squid. Next you reach Goes. With almost 300 stores, this diverse city is a delight for shopping fans. A trip on the local steam train is also exciting - the authentic museum trains are a great way to discover the surroundings of Zeeland. You return to your accommodation in Zierikzee through beautiful natural landscapes.

Once again you start your cycle tour over the Zeeland Bridge. On the structure, you are overcome by the feeling of standing in the middle of the sea. You cross the island of North Beveland and cycle to Veere. The historic town is full of stores and sights. Some of the houses and streets date back to the 15th century. In summer, a historic market is held in the town center every Tuesday. And a boat trip on the Veerse Meer will give you yet more new impressions of Zeeland. The tireless can take a short detour to the Schellach cheese farm, where you can sample various regional specialties. You then cycle back to Zierikzee.
