Kotor Header

The rich history and captivating atmosphere render Eastern Europe an enticing and multifaceted destination. Three intriguing countries are featured on the itinerary of this cycling tour with Eurobike. These regions boast cultural diversity, historical heritage, and stunning architecture. Cities like Herceg Novi and Kotor are sure to inspire with their beauty. As you pedal along the Adriatic coast, you'll encounter beautiful beaches and secluded bays. The hospitality, authentic local cuisine, and unspoiled nature will enchant you at every turn.

On this journey, your first introduction to Eastern Europe will be Bosnia-Herzegovina. Starting from Trebinje, you'll traverse the Trebišnjica Valley. Soon after, you'll cross the border into Montenegro and arrive at the Adriatic coast in Herceg Novi. On day 3, the Bay of Kotor awaits you on your itinerary, and your overnight stay will be in Stari Bar.

Passing through olive groves, you'll arrive at Shkodra, Albania's second-largest city. Following a personalized tour through the Albanian countryside, you'll return to Montenegro on day 6. You'll then explore the region surrounding the sparkling Lake Skadar before venturing into Lovćen National Park. Cycling along the Austro-Hungarian serpentine road, you'll be treated to magnificent panoramas during your last few kilometers of cycling - an experience you'll cherish for years to come!

  • The idyllic bay of Kotor: The bay captivates with its majestic beauty, nestled among steep mountains and historic towns. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features picturesque villages like Perast and the charming old town of Kotor, renowned for its medieval architecture. Take a boat excursion through the fjord-like bay for an unforgettable experience!
  • Fantastic views and unspoiled nature: The Lovćen National Park in Montenegro offers stunning landscapes, dense forests, and majestic peaks. Situated in the heart of the impressive Lovćen massif, you can cycle to the mausoleum of Njegoš, a former king of the country. From here, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Bay of Kotor and the Adriatic Sea!
  • Bays and beaches that beckon for a swim: Speaking of the Adriatic Sea - the coastline in this part of Europe is often overlooked but highly underrated. With mountains framing the landscape, the turquoise waters are perfect for swimming and water sports.

On stages that can stretch up to 90 kilometers, you'll encounter varying levels of altitude, so we recommend a good basic level of fitness for this ambitious journey. Each day begins with a hearty breakfast at your accommodation to ensure you have plenty of energy along the way. The route has been meticulously crafted by our travel experts, and some transfers are included in the tour package for your convenience.

Itinerary at a glance

This rather unknown part of Europe will inspire you. Enjoy cycling tours on coastal roads along the Adriatic Sea, through the vineyards of Lake Skadar and in Lovcen National Park before rolling down the serpentines to Kotor.

Welcome to Bosnia and Hezegovina.

You start your cycle tour right on the doorstep of your hotel and first cycle through authentic villages in the Trebišnjica Valley. Later you follow the road towards the border with Montenegro. From the border station, a leisurely descent begins towards Herceg Novi in Montenegro. Enjoy the first views of the Bay of Kotor. Stroll through the alleyways of the historic centre of Herceg Novi or treat yourself to your first dip in the Adriatic Sea.

Today you cycle to the highlights of the Bay of Kotor. You cycle along the old railway line, which once connected Dubrovnik and Herceg Novi, to Zelenika. Along the coast, you will visit Risan and Perast, the pearls of the bay. Take your time to explore the picturesque historic town and its beautiful church islands (by shuttle boat, not included). Lunch at a mussel farm in Orahovac is highly recommended before continuing the tour along the coast to Kotor. By shuttle bus via Budva and Sv. Stefan to Stari Bar.

At the start of today's stage, you will pass olive groves with trees that are more than 2000 years old. You cycle above the Adriatic Sea around Bar, the "olive oil capital" of Montenegro, and can stop en route for a picnic at Lake Sas. Enjoy the beautiful view as you cycle through a wide valley. You cross the border into Albania. A few more kilometres and you will reach Shkodra, Albania's second largest city.

Cycle to the river Drin and treat yourself to lunch in one of Albania's best restaurants, the slow food restaurant "Mrizi I Zanave" ("Garden of the Fairy"). On the way, you will pass the mighty Drin river dam and experience Albanian village life. You can either return the same way (approx. 65 km) or a shuttle service can be organised on request (for a fee on site) to take you back to Shkodra. If you feel like it, you can extend the cycle tour on this day through flat terrain through Albanian villages (approx. 90 km).

A one-hour transfer takes you across the border to Montenegro and bridges the first major ascent. A beautiful but challenging panoramic tour awaits you today. You follow a narrow road above Lake Skadar and cycle through vineyards, villages with countless breathtaking views of the lake and the dramatic Albanian Alps. You cycle through centuries-old majestic chestnut groves that surround the village of Ostros. Continue cycling high above the lake until you see Montenegro's "Alcatraz" in the distance - a former prison island from the time of King Nikola. In Godinje, a traditional wine region, you can recharge your batteries before the final climb on the way to Virpazar. Optionally, you can take a boat trip (1.5 hours) on Lake Skadar to enjoy the beauty of the lake and take a refreshing dip. Transfer to Lovcen National Park in the late afternoon.

Today's tour takes you along the famous Austro-Hungarian serpentine road directly from the mountains to the sea, with the most beautiful panoramic views of the Bay of Kotor. If you are up for the challenge, you can cycle the last 200 metres up to the mausoleum of Montenegro's most important historical figure, Petar Petrović Njegoš. From the viewing platform at the mausoleum, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over almost the whole of Montenegro on a clear day. Once you have mastered the first climb, the route continues downhill for over 30 kilometres. There are several great viewpoints along the way. At the end of the 3-country cycling adventure, you will reach the walls of the old town of Kotor. Enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere of Kotor and a last beautiful evening by the most beautiful fjord in Montenegro.
