Take one last look at the castle and the sparkling lake before leaving the town behind as you cycle along the clear Sava Bohinjka River. On peaceful paths, you will cycle through lush green countryside, accompanied by birdsong and idyllic villages, into the wider Sava Valley and on to Ljubljana, where history and modern city life come together. In the morning, you will take a few more photos of Ljubljana’s sights and then you will leave the city along the Ljubljanica River. Before long, you will be back in the heart of nature, though the scenery will shift from the impressive mountain landscape of the past few days to a beautiful hilly countryside with authentic villages, where time seems to pass a little more slowly. Once you arrive at your destination in Postojna, the grand finale, the country’s largest tourist cave, is sure to delight you.

Today is a special day, another “change of scenery” awaits, as you will cross the border to Italy and cycle all the way to the sea. But first, you will pass through the Slovenian Karst, a truly unique landscape that, in some sections, is reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands. At the end, a long descent awaits; the final kilometers take you along a former railroad with fantastic views over the Gulf of Trieste right into the heart of the city. Enjoy the dolce vita in the evening and enjoy the famous Italian cuisine.

You'll pass through idyllic villages on the karst plateau high above the deep-blue Adriatic Sea. Along the way, the impressive Grotta Gigante lies by the roadside before you cross the border to Slovenia once more. The route continues through a small wine-growing region to Gorizia. This border town combines Italian charm with Central European elegance and captivates visitors as a vibrant cultural capital.

After a few kilometres, you will cross the Soča and follow a cycle path along a former railway line, past the imposing Solkan Bridge. The river, with its fascinating shades of blue and green, accompanies you through the beautiful Soča Valley. In Kanal ob Soči, the river flows right through the village, offering a lovely photo opportunity, before the route continues through lush green countryside. As you head towards Tolmin, the mountains draw closer once more and increasingly dominate the panorama on the way back to the Julian Alps.

In the morning, follow the Soča River to the town of Most na Soči. From there, the train takes you through the longest tunnel in Slovenia to Bohinjska Bistrica. A detour to Lake Bohinj, nestled in a stunning postcard-perfect Alpine setting, is definitely worth it. Along the clear Sava Bohinjka, you will ride on a beautiful cycle path through the valley, framed by mountains, back to Bled.
