Zurich – Lausanne

Discovery tour on the Mittelland route

7 Days / 6 Nights
View over vineyards to Lake Geneva, mountains in the background

Zurich-Regensdorf is the start of this cycle tour that manages to cross Switzerland without climbing a major hill. From the big city, you'll soon be cycling to the carrot fields in Aargau, vineyards in the Three Lakes Region and mountain panoramas on Lake Geneva. Along the way, the love of detail that makes Switzerland so beautiful is evident at every turn: discover the newly designed baths of Baden, count the 11 altars and bells in Solothurn and stroll through the cobbled streets of Estavayer. The Mittelland Route is a journey for connoisseurs, every detail is just right.

itinerary at a glance

Take a stroll through the sophisticated city of Zurich, and then enjoy nature in Furttal and the Aare wetlands. In the Three Lakes Region, you'll find historical villages and picturesque landscapes. Finally, in Lausanne, you can gaze contentedly upon Lake Geneva.

Arrival in Zurich-Regensdorf

Through the Furt-valley of the Limmat, the bathing spot Baden, and on to marvel at the Gothic stained glass windows in Königsfelden and yellow irises of the river Aare floodplain, followed by a leisurely ride on the Aare dam to Olten.

Past baroque-town Solothurn along the meandering Aare to Dreiseenland (three lakes country). Just 130 years ago, this landscape was redesigned by man: the lake level lowered and marshes drained. Seeland is now the scene of intense vegetable cultivation.

A pleasant ride through the three lakes country. The little medieval town of Murten on the south-east bank of the lake of the same name has preserved its original appearance, with the picturesque alleyways of the Old Town and the pleasant shady arcades.

From medieval Murten to the small city Avenches. The small town of Avenches lies in the wide Broye Plain between the Lakes of Neuchâtel and Murten in the cantonof Vaud near the border to the canton of Fribourg. This former capital of Roman Helvetia has a rich and valuable heritage from Roman times. Now back to Lake Neuchatel. chirping in the reeds, waves lapping at the gentle shore, the Jura is shimmering in the distance. Over 100 species of birds breed in the Grande Cariçaie, the 40-km-long marsh and reed belt along the southern shores of the lake.

Flat and fertile: Plaine de l’Orbe, framed by Roman mosaics and the rolling hills of Vaud. In Mormont, the watershed of the Rhone and Rhine. Change of scene from the wild waters of the Venoge to the small silver «sea» of Lac Léman.
