Eurobike Company Outing 2025

Bike & Boat Adventure on the Danube — Rainy Weather, Great Spirits

At the end of October, it was time for our annual company outing once again. This year, we explored the stunning Blue Danube, enjoying the thrill of both biking and boating. The weather forecast wasn’t perfect, but it didn’t dampen our spirits — after all, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong gear. With that mindset, the weekend became an adventure to remember for everyone.

Off to the Donau–Heading Toward Schärding

On Saturday morning, we departed from Obertrum in high spirits, traveling by two buses to our bike station Danube in St. Florian, near Schärding. A few colleagues joined us during a short stop in nearby Mattighofen.

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed with a delicious spread of fresh rolls, drinks, and hot coffee. Many of us had never visited the newly redesigned station before, and curiosity ran high. After a brief introduction from our managing directors, Verena and Thomas, we split into four groups for a tour, gaining fascinating insights into the daily work of our colleagues.

Cycling or Hiking –That’s the Question

With the weather in mind, an alternative program had been arranged at short notice. Team members could either stick to the original plan and cycle along the Danube or hike up to the viewpoint overlooking the famous Donauschlinge.

While the hiking group set off by bus, the cycling group grabbed their bikes and, after a quick introduction in St. Florian, pedaled off toward Engelhartszell. The weather stayed mostly on our side — the heavy rain held off during the roughly 35-kilometer stretch to Pyrawang for lunch. A light drizzle didn’t slow us down, and only in Passau did we pause briefly to gear up against the rain.

Lunch at Gasthaus Donauschwan in Pyrawang was perfectly timed — the hiking group arrived by bus just as we did! Together, we enjoyed a hearty meal and recharged for the next leg of the adventure. With the guesthouse right on the Danube, we caught our first glimpse of our floating hotel, the MS Prinzessin Katharina, gracefully passing by on its way to our meeting point in Engelhartszell.

As departure time approached, the rain picked up, but nothing could dampen our energy. With determination and laughter, we cycled the final 12 kilometers to Engelhartszell. Partially soaked but proud and exhilarated, we reached the end of our ride: the new office of Pedalo/Radreisefreunde, where we were warmly welcomed. A tour of the newly designed space, lively conversations, and a refreshing drink set the stage for the next highlight of the day.

Welcome Aboard the MS Prinzessin Katharina

Our ship, the MS Prinzessin Katharina, was ready for our arrival. After checking in and enjoying a well-deserved hot shower (especially for the cycling group!), the ship set off toward Passau. Feeling refreshed, we all met at 7:00 PM in the bar for a shared aperitif. Verena and Thomas gave an engaging recap of the past season — a wonderful reminder of everything we accomplished together.

We then enjoyed a delicious four-course dinner in the festively set dining room, while the lights of nighttime Passau passed by outside. The evening wound down cozily at the bar, marking a fun and fitting end to an eventful day.

Heading Back to Obertrum

The next morning, a hearty breakfast awaited us on board, with everything our hearts could desire. At 10:30 AM, it was time to say goodbye: we checked out, boarded the buses, and headed back to Obertrum, arriving around midday — tired, satisfied, and carrying a treasure trove of wonderful memories.

Despite the rain, our company outing to the Danube was a resounding success! Whether cycling, hiking, or aboard the ship, we once again proved that team spirit, humor, and shared experiences are at the heart of Eurobike.
