Home of Austria's Wine Grower King
Based in a 4-star hotel in Podersdorf, explore Lake Neusiedl and surroundings on easy, flat cycle paths. Daily routes of 45-70 km lead through vineyards, reed beds, and salt ponds. Visit the historic town of Rust with its storks, cross to Hungary to explore Sopron's medieval center, and observe Przewalski horses and bee-eaters. Includes boat trips across the lake, access to St. Martins Therme, and a rest day for relaxation.
South-east of Vienna the „City of Waltz “, where Puszta, reed belt and vineyards meet, the unique natural-reserve Lake Neusiedlersee is home of Austria’s Wine-Grower King. Soft hilly vineyards, the reeds around the lake and salt-ponds are characteristic for this countryside. Little villages with stork-nests on the roofs, rare bird species and animals, as e.g. the protected Mangaliza-swine and Przewalski-horses live here. Holiday in National Park Lake Neusiedlersee – only recently protected by UNESCO – stands for: idyllic Puszta with unforgettable sunsets, pannonic climate and about 300 sunny days per year. The well-known paradise for surfers and sailors is ideal for cyclists with a network of cycle paths winding the way through varied flora and fauna. Tours can be planned individually.
The cycle paths are either on asphalt or of hard natural surface. The countryside is flat, only in Hungary where you will encounter a few hills/climbs. You can sometimes expect headwind.
