Enjoy our long-distance cycle route in the PAMINA region, a cross-border cycle tour to discover specialities from northern Alsace, the Palatinate and Baden. This circular tour, which starts along the Rhine, is a journey of discovery through the protected natural landscapes and remarkable cultural heritage of the Palatinate Forest and the Northern Vosges Nature Park, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. On cycle paths and small hilly roads, you will discover the baroque town of Rastatt, typical Alsatian villages, the vineyards of Cleebourg, beech, oak and Scots pine forests that reveal meadows and orchards here and there, Romanesque churches, the steep Zorn valley across the Rhine plain to the cycling city of Strasbourg. The Alsatian capital with its cosmopolitan flair and European culture is just the right end to this cycle tour through the PAMINA region.

Itinerary at a glance

Whether nature or cosmopolitan flair, from the vineyards of Cleebourg to the UNESCO biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest-North Vosges to Strasbourg, the "capital of Europe", discover everything the PAMINA region has to offer.

Arrival in Strasbourg

A beautifully laid out cycle path leads through the city to the banks of the Rhine. You cycle leisurely along the river through the gentle Rhine plain. In Drusenheim, take the ferry across to the other bank of the Rhine. The route continues through the charming floodplain landscape to Rastatt with its baroque old town.

Discover the varied landscapes between the Rhine, Sauer and Lauter rivers today. From Rastatt you reach Alsace again with the Rhine ferry and continue cycling through unique flora and fauna in the nature reserve of the Sûre delta to the small border town of Lauterbourg. From there, the route continues on side roads to the two most beautiful villages in the Wissembourg region, Seebach and Hunspach. Take the time to admire the beautiful half-timbered houses decorated with flowers and colourful shutters. Take a trip to the Schoenenbourg fortress on the way to visit this imposing work of the Maginot Line or to enjoy the view from the domes of the fortress. Finally, you will reach Wissembourg through the Cleebourg vineyard, the northernmost wine-growing region in Alsace.

Wissembourg and its idyllic setting with fortress ruins invite you to take a morning stroll. Today you follow the PAMINA cycle path Lautertal again and have two routes with several climbs to choose from. The short version leads through Lembach. Immerse yourself in the heart of history with a visit to the Four-à-Chaux fortifications. A longer option leads through Dahn with its forests and open valley meadows with idyllic villages and the biosphere centre in Fischbach with its treetop trail and adventure stations. Two paths lead through the cross-border biosphere reserve "Northern Vosges - Palatinate Forest", a paradise for cyclists and nature lovers!

The route to La Petite Pierre takes you through predominantly hilly terrain: villages, forests, meadows and orchards alternate. The small medieval town of La Petite Pierre is perched on a rock and is home to a beautiful castle. After a tour of the castle's outer courtyard, you should definitely try a traditional tarte flambée in one of the fortified town's restaurants.

A short stage for plenty of time to enjoy. Saverne, your stage destination, impresses with its picturesque old town, the small marina and the Chateau des Rohan, modelled on the famous Palace of Versailles. For the more adventurous, we offer a flat excursion (there and back) along the canal from Saverne, which leads through the steep Zorn valley via the extraordinary Saint Louis/Arzwiller boat lift. A bucolic route where cyclists, walkers, anglers, climbers and lovers of nature and heritage meet.

You leave Saverne on EuroVelo 5 along the Marne-Rhine Canal, an easy and flat stage. The Alsatian countryside passes you by as you cycle from village to village along the canal. Along the way is Hochfelden, a stronghold of the art of brewing. Discover the production process of the oldest brewery in France and the fascinating history of this family brewery. Enter the Villa Meteor for an exceptional tour and tasting! You will reach Strasbourg through the "European Quarter", the seat of the European Parliament, the perfect end to this cycle tour through the PAMINA region.
