Do you have questions about this tour?

Around Lake Weißensee and the royal castles, a varied cycling tour for families awaits you through the most beautiful landscapes of the Allgäu. Discover historic towns, sparkling lakes and impressive cultural treasures on enjoyable daily stages. From the old town of Füssen, past Lake Forggensee and the Lech River, all the way to the famous castles of Hohenschwangau, you will experience the region from ever-changing perspectives. Traditional cheese dairies along the Emmental Cycling Path offer delightful insights into the region’s cheese-making culture, while idyllic swimming spots and magnificent mountain panoramas provide moments of relaxation.

Itinerary at a glance

The Allgäu and the royal castles around Füssen are simply a perfect match! Your residence, the Boutique Hotel Dreimäderlhaus, is also enchanting. This lakeside paradise is perfect for swimming on hot days and there is something new to discover every day.

Enjoy initial rays of sunshine either on the terrace of the hotel at the Lake Weißensee or take a stroll along the lakeshore and marvel at the impressive backdrop of the surrounding mountains.

In Füssen, the historic old town with its colourful façades and the Hohe Schloss offers a fascinating insight into the region’s history. Next on the itinerary is Bavaria’s fifth-largest lake; with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains, you will cycle along a stretch of the Forggensee. Passing the idyllically situated Faulensee, which is the perfect spot for a relaxing break, the route continues to Lake Hopfensee and back to the hotel along its shores.

In the morning you will cycle to Pfronten. This charming vacation destination captivates visitors with its traditional houses, numerous churches, and magnificent views of the surrounding peaks. You’ll then follow the course of the Vils River through the Tyrolean Vilstal Valley into Austria. Passing the Baumkronenweg and the impressive waterfall Lechfall, the route continues to Füssen and, via the picturesque Lake Alatsee, finally leads back to the Lake Weißensee.

From Füssen, the route takes you to Hohenschwangau, where two castles await you. Here, King Ludwig’s most spectacular building, Neuschwanstein Castle, is perched on a impressive rock above the valley. With its white limestone façade, numerous towers and spectacular setting against the backdrop of the Allgäu Alps, Neuschwanstein looks as though it has sprung from the pages of a picture book. Inside, you will be fascinated by the elaborately designed rooms, inspired by medieval legends and the King’s dreams. You will be no less inspired by Hohenschwangau Castle on the way to the beautifully situated Lake Alpsee.

The Allgäu is world-famous for its cheese specialities. Along your route, you will come across small cheese dairies that still produce Allgäu Emmental and mountain cheese in the traditional way, using local milk. Of course, you should not miss the chance to sample these culinary specialities. The cycle route takes you past cow pastures and through farming hamlets to Seeg, with its impressive Rococo church. As well as culinary delights and culture, another lovely spot for a swim awaits you at the Schwaltenweiher.

Today impressive cultural treasures with magnificent views of the Allgäu mountains are combined. From Weißensee you will ride to Lake Hopfensee and its castle ruins. The next highlights await you at Hopferau Castle and the Mariahilf pilgrimage church. With a view of Germany’s highest castle complex, the Falkenstein castle ruins, you will make your way back to the hotel.
