The wine route between Metz and Coblenz
The Moselle Cycle Path from Metz to Coblenz follows mostly flat, well-signposted routes along the river through France, Luxembourg, and Germany. Highlights include contemporary art in Metz, Roman monuments in Trier (Porta Nigra, amphitheatre), picturesque wine villages like Bernkastel-Kues and Cochem with its 11th-century fortress, and the German Corner in Coblenz. Daily distances average 35-65 km on relaxed terrain through extensive vineyards.
Follow the young course of the river at the beginning and enjoy French flair and culinary delights in the border triangle of France, Luxembourg and Germany. Spend your bike holiday in the most famous vineyard in Germany at one of the most beautiful rivers. Marvel at the emperor hot spring and the Porta Nigra – a first-class historic building in the roman city Trier. By bike you reach famous villages as Bernkastel-Kues, Traben-Trarbach, Cochem, Neumagen-Dhron, the oldest wine village in Germany, and Enkirch, a jewel of half-timber architecture. Visit fortress Eltz and enjoy the romantic bike routes before you admire the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers at the Deutsches Eck in Koblenz.
Really relaxed cycling in mostly flat terrain. Between Metz and Thionville small parts with more traffic (alternatively you can go by train). Afterwards excellent signposted cycle path.
