Three cyclists on a cycle path amidst fields and hills

The essentials at a glance

Cycle through Tuscany's rolling hills from Montecatini Terme to Florence, visiting iconic cities including Pisa with its Leaning Tower, medieval San Gimignano with its historic towers, and Siena. Explore the Chianti wine region and Castellina village. Athletic difficulty with rewarding climbs offering panoramic views. Daily distances average 40-65 km on scenic country roads and paths through vineyards and olive groves.

“La vita è bella!” Few places invite you to savor life as beautifully as Tuscany. Rolling hills draped in vineyards, cypress-lined avenues, historic architecture, and cultural treasures accompany you on your cycling journey through this captivating Italian region. In Vinci, you’ll walk in the footsteps of Leonardo da Vinci and in Pisa, you’ll pedal around the iconic leaning tower; and in Florence, you’ll cross the famed Ponte Vecchio. After each day’s ride, delight in world-renowned culinary treats—from antipasti to zabaione. By day, you’ll cycle past endless vineyards; by evening, you’ll have the chance to savor their finest wines. Here, natural splendor meets architectural brilliance—nowhere else in the world does this enchanting combination shine as vividly as it does in Tuscany.

Enjoyment is at the forefront of this Italian cycle tour. Be it the sight of the dreamlike landscapes, or trying out local specialties. On the bike saddle you will experience pure Italian life. Do you dream of narrow streets, a good glass of wine and authentic Italian cuisine? In Florence, Pisa and Siena your dream becomes a reality. The tour also leaves plenty of time to explore the historic towns of northern Italy and become captivated by the Italian culture.

  • Leonardo da Vinci: With every pedal, you come closer to the home of Leonardo da Vinci. Once in Vinci, a visit to the museum in the castle is recommended. What to expect? Original collections and models by the artist.
  • ‘Piazza dei Miracoli’: A special highlight of this cycle tour is the stopover in Pisa. Who hasn’t heard of the famous leaning tower? In addition to this special attraction, the city has many more beauties in store!
  • Wine area of Castellina: wine-lovers take note! The penultimate stage leads through the wine village of Castellina, where the world-famous Chianti Classico is grown. This charming wine village is also known as the ‘capital of the Chianti region’ because of its famous vines and olives.

Over eight days you will cycle through the hilly landscape of Italy. Sport-lovers take note! If you love more demanding tours and are in good condition, then the Tuscany tour is perfect for you. A hilly landscape and several uphill sections await you.

Itinerary at a glance

Where to start? Perhaps with a visit to Pisa’s iconic leaning tower. The Tuscan cities of Florence, Siena, and San Gimignano will also captivate you. San Gimignano, especially, enchants with its historic family towers that shape the medieval skyline. The Chianti wine region, with its charming village of Castellina, leaves a lasting impression. Along the way, you’ll encounter not only vineyards and olive groves but also savor these flavors on your plate.

Tour information and bike handover. Begin with a relaxing stroll through the famous spa town—you’re sure to be enchanted by the beauty of the region. Or why not take a ride on the funicular up to Montecatini Alto?

The small medieval wine town of Montecarlo—where one of Tuscany’s rare white wines flourishes—lies along the route to Lucca (alternatively, you can reach Montecarlo independently by train). Cycling atop its nearly fully preserved city walls offers an unforgettable experience. The journey then continues to Lake Massacciuccoli, also known as Giacomo Puccini’s lake, boasting breathtaking views all the way to the sea and Pisa’s “Piazza dei Miracoli,” home to the world-famous Leaning Tower.

The cycling route first follows the Arno River, accompanied by fertile fields. Next, you’ll pass through the hills of the Pisa region, where gentle slopes are dotted with sweet vineyards, juicy olives, and ripe peaches. Small medieval villages cling to the hilltops like swallows’ nests. With these enchanting sights, you’ll soon arrive at today’s destination, the spa town of Casciana Terme.

You’ll pedal through vineyards and softly rolling hills along picturesque paths toward San Gimignano, surrounded by the timeless beauty of the authentic Tuscan countryside. Just before you arrive, the iconic silhouette of the world-famous medieval towers will come into view. Once owned by noble families, these historic towers still define the town’s charming skyline today.

The stunning Tuscan landscape along today’s route makes the occasional small climb barely noticeable. By the time you reach the fortified village of Monteriggioni, you’ll feel transported back to the Middle Ages. But the undeniable highlight of the day is the architectural gem that is Siena.
