From alpine mountains to old town charm

The journey begins in Lech am Arlberg, Austria, where the river still flows wild and untamed through the alpine landscape. Along the Lech, nature becomes an adventure playground: children build stone towers, splash around on the banks, and discover small streams.

You’ll cycle leisurely through the Tyrolean Lech Valley – past idyllic towns like Steeg, Holzgau, and Elbigenalp, where small playgrounds and the famous suspension bridge offer plenty of space to let off steam. In Füssen, the Lech Falls delight as a powerful natural spectacle and are sure to amaze both young and old alike. The royal castles, with their fairytale setting, transport the whole family into a world of knights, kings, and princesses.

Cycling along Lake Forggensee through the Allgäu, past swimming spots and magnificent views, you’ll reach Landsberg am Lech. The charming old town, with its narrow alleys and cozy cafés, invites you to take a relaxing break from cycling. Augsburg is the perfect place to wind down your trip. Stroll through the old town, cool off at the numerous fountains – and, of course, enjoy an ice cream.

Your checklist for a safe cycling holiday

To make your travel preparations easier, here are our tips and recommendations to ensure you don’t leave anything behind on your next active vacation.

Rental Bikes & Trailers

The right bike is essential for a successful cycling holiday. Especially for children, the right size is crucial for comfort and safety.

For families, we provide suitable rental bikes and accessories: children’s bikes in various sizes (20 to 26 inches), bike trailers for one or two children, and 20-inch children’s bikes with a follow-me tandem coupling for added safety and flexibility on the road.

Clothing and Shoes

To ensure the whole family is comfortable, clothing should above all be comfortable, functional, and weatherproof.

For cycling: comfortable cycling shorts or athletic pants, functional shirts, lightweight athletic underwear, and athletic socks
Well-prepared for any weather: jacket or windbreaker, rain gear, and a warm sweater or fleece
Sun protection & comfort: cap or hat, headband, and, if needed, a scarf
For breaks & the evening: cozy casual wear to feel comfortable
For quick breaks by the water: swimwear and water shoes or sandals
A must-have for your journey: well-broken-in athletic shoes for cycling and comfortable casual shoes

Sports Gear

For relaxing and safe days on the bike, you only need a few essential items to ensure you’re well-prepared for your ride.

Bicycle helmets for the whole family – ensuring safety at every stage
A bike lock for quick stops along the way
A repair kit (optional) for minor repairs

Documents

For a worry-free family trip, all important documents should be well-organized and easily accessible. These include identification (passport or ID card), a debit or credit card, and some cash for the journey. Equally important are your e-card and travel insurance documents.

Don’t forget: a fully charged cell phone, your travel documents, and any tickets you may need for arrival or departure.

Travel First Aid Kit

When traveling with children, minor ailments can easily occur along the way. To ensure you’re well-prepared, we recommend packing a compact first aid kit in your day bag. This should include:

Band-Aids
Antiseptic
An ointment for minor scrapes
A basic first-aid kit for emergencies
Skin protection creams for pressure sores
Important: any medications you personally need — especially for allergies
Insect repellent

Snacks and Drinks

On a cycling trip with children, taking regular breaks is especially important. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids — ideally from a well-sealed bottle that keeps drinks cool or warm.

For a quick snack, fruit, granola bars, sandwiches, or glucose tablets are perfect as a quick energy boost for both adults and children.
