The essentials at a glance

Bike and boat tour through Provence and Camargue from Aigues-Mortes to Avignon aboard MS Caprice or MS L'Estello. Medium difficulty with mostly flat routes on quiet back roads, averaging 45 km daily. Highlights include medieval Aigues-Mortes, Roman ruins in Arles, Les Baux de Provence, Pont du Gard aqueduct, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards. Includes guided tour of Arles, wine and oil tastings, full board, and onboard tour guide.

An inspiring journey by bike and boat through southern France, following in the footsteps of the great Vincent van Gogh. Cycle along secluded routes through peaceful Provençal landscapes and the wild nature of the Camargue. Pass through charming, typical French villages and explore the history of this proud region, building by building. In the evening, a comfortable river boat awaits you with good food, wine and relaxed conviviality.

Your holiday starts in the medieval town of Aigues-Mortes, whose imposing city walls and winding streets immediately captivate visitors. From here, you explore the quiet, expansive landscapes of the Camargue: lagoons, reed beds, dunes, and small villages where traditional bull culture is still alive today.

Alternating between relaxed boat stages and enjoyable cycling tours, the route continues to Arles, the city of Van Gogh and Roman heritage, and through the limestone cliffs and olive groves of the Alpilles to Les Baux and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Along quiet country roads, you cycle past abbeys, castles, and wine villages before finally reaching Avignon, the City of the Popes, crowned by the famous Saint-Bénézet Bridge.

Each evening, your cosy ship awaits, offering French charm, excellent cuisine, and relaxing hours under the southern sky.

  • Camargue & Natural Landscapes: Wide lagoons, canals and dunes, fragrant pine forests, and the serene beauty of southern France.
  • Arles & Alpilles: Roman ruins, Van Gogh landmarks, limestone cliffs, and typical villages such as Les Baux and Saint-Rémy.
  • Pont du Gard: A Roman masterpiece and one of Europe’s most impressive aqueducts.
  • Provençal Lifestyle: Organic wineries, olive groves, charming village squares, and authentic regional cuisine.
  • Aigues-Mortes & Avignon: Medieval city walls, the Papal Palace, Rhône panoramas, and rich French cultural history.

This one-week bike & boat tour is rated moderate. Most stages are flat through the Camargue or along quiet secondary roads in Provence, with occasional gentle undulations north of Arles. A slightly more challenging climb leads to Les-Baux-de-Provence — a scenic highlight worth the effort.

Thanks to several short ship crossings, each stage starts conveniently at an ideal point, and you can enjoy relaxing hours on board the MS Caprice or MS L’Estello in between. The combination of culture, nature, culinary delights, and southern French flair makes this journey varied, enjoyable, and easy to ride.
