Where half-timber is more than architecture
Circular cycling tour along the Werra and Fulda rivers through picturesque Hann. Münden with over 700 half-timbered houses from six centuries. The route passes through Kassel with its impressive Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, historic Melsungen, Rotenburg a.d. Fulda, and Eschwege. Medium difficulty with mostly traffic-free paths and approximately 200m altitude difference between Rotenburg and Eschwege. Daily distances range from 25 to 40 km through the gentle low mountain landscape of Hohen Meißner.
The nature seems untouched and wild here. Impressive castles, the low mountain range and beautiful valleys are awaiting you. Timbered houses are inviting you in stylish atmosphere and old cities as for example 1000-year-old Eschwege are telling stories of former history. Others bring fairy tales to life and give art plenty of space, such as the Documenta city of Kassel. And everywhere you go, you can sense that this region tells a story—quietly, charmingly, and full of character. A round trip that is still considered a real insider tip—for anyone looking for something authentic and special.
You cycle on roads with low traffic or asphalted bike paths and side roads. There is an altitude difference of 200 m (possibility to go by train, not included) between Bebra and Sontra, otherwise there are just little altitude differences.
