Arena in Verona

Nature trip or cultural journey? Why choose when you can have both! Follow the Adige River as you explore South Tyrol — from the vibrant capital city Bolzano to the romantic festival city of Verona. Over seven days, you’ll encounter numerous attractions, both scenic and cultural. Pay a visit to Ötzi in Bolzano before cycling through vineyards and picturesque villages to reach Trento. From afar, you can already catch the sparkling glimpse of Lake Garda. With the gentle waves in sight, the Mediterranean vibe quickly sets in as you pedal toward Verona. A day excursion to Mantua adds the perfect finishing touch to your cycling vacation — between the Palazzo Ducale and the Basilica di Sant’Andrea, soak up the true Italian “Dolce Vita".

In Bolzano, you can start your journey with a little indulgence - after your arrival, treat yourself to a cappuccino in the charming bars and toast the next seven days with a spritzer. With that, it's already "Buon Viaggio!" Along the South Tyrolean Wine Road to the 1st stage destination of Auer, you will pass not only the extensive vineyards and orchards, but also numerous historic buildings.

The Adige river takes you on to beautiful Trento and Rovereto, from where the journey continues to Lake Garda. Let us treat you to a pistachio ice cream and explore the enchanting lakeside towns of Desenzano and Sirmione before the route takes you on to Verona. The final day trip to Mantua offers wonderful natural landscapes with lakes, rivers and parks. In the city, one architectural masterpiece follows the next within the medieval city walls - Mantua is, after all, one of the most important art cities in Lombardy and, by the way, wonderful to explore on foot.

  • Walther Square in Bolzano exudes the perfect mix of Mediterranean bustle and South Tyrolean cosiness - depending on when you visit it. Incidentally, the square is named after the most famous minnesinger of the Middle Ages: Walther von der Vogelweide. He is said to have been born in South Tyrol, but we are not quite sure, which is why the square has been renamed several times over the years.
  • Magnificent views of Lake Kaltern: On day 2, the route leads past the wine village of Eppan and to one of the warmest lakes in the Alps. So if the weather is good, feel free to take a dip in the refreshing water and enjoy the views of the water sports enthusiasts on the lake and the surrounding countryside.
  • Boat trip on Lake Garda: A special highlight awaits you on day 4, where the cycling stage is followed by a boat trip along the entire length of the enchanting lake. Can you already feel the breeze in your hair and the Mediterranean flair?
  • By bike to the Arena in Verona: A city full of romance, culture and beauty - that's what you can confidently say about Verona. Where Romeo and Juliet fell in love, only "spring fever" can arise while strolling. But also explore the impressive Arena, where gladiators used to fight.

The 30 to 65 km long stages of the tour are complemented by a boat trip on Lake Garda and a train ride. The beautifully designed cycle paths, e.g. along the Adige river, are mainly flat with a few steeper climbs.

Itinerary at a glance
