A bay near Cape St Vincent

Algarve with charm

Along Portugal‘s dream coast

8 Days / 7 Nights
A bay near Cape St Vincent

The southern coast of Portugal captivates its visitors with an abundance of sun, sand, and sea, yet there is so much more to explore! Along your cycling journey, you'll encounter charming towns and picturesque fishing villages, alongside majestic rock formations and hidden coves. This experience is enriched by the warm hospitality of the Portuguese people and a delectable culinary scene that caters to diverse tastes, ranging from cheese to seafood, meat, and exquisite wines. Thanks to its pleasant climate, the Algarve makes for an ideal destination, particularly in the spring and late into the autumn. Recharge under the sun's rays and uncover this breathtaking piece of paradise with Eurobike!

Your eight-day journey takes you along the coast from west to east, including not only the region's major hotspots but also quiet gems and tranquil spots. You begin at Cape St. Vincent, the southwesternmost point of Europe, with a breathtaking natural backdrop. Around Lagos, be sure to allocate enough time to linger on the beautiful beaches and enjoy a swim in the Atlantic.

Idyllic villages and harbor towns, with restaurants that cater especially to seafood enthusiasts, line the stages leading to the famous Algarve hotspots of Albufeira, Faro, and Tavira. The final leg of the tour takes you through the Ria Formosa Natural Park and to the Spanish border in Vila Real de Santo António.

  • The Cape of St. Vincent: Right from the beginning of your tour, you'll encounter an absolutely fascinating place - Cabo de São Vicente. Steep cliffs and a lighthouse create a magical natural spectacle as the waves lash against the rocks. During the age of the seafarers, this cape was considered the end of the world; after all, people didn't yet know what lay beyond the endless expanses of the sea.
  • Lively cities around Lagos, Albufeira and Faro: Enjoy watching the life on the streets of the famous Algarve cities. Music, laughter, and the bustling activity in the markets, restaurants, and shops create the perfect contrast to tranquil olive groves, pine forests, and picturesque coves.
  • The Ria Formosa Nature Park: The lagoon landscape in the eastern Algarve is renowned for its sand dunes, small islands, and unique flora and fauna. As it is influenced by the tides, the terrain constantly changes. Numerous bird species nest here, and with a bit of luck, you might even encounter flamingos.

The Eurobike cycling tours with charm include accommodations in carefully selected hotels that offer their guests that certain something extra. Look forward to a touch of luxury, a fine spa area, or a special location. A hearty breakfast awaits you each day, ensuring you set off to your daily destinations with strength and energy. With stage lengths ranging from 35 to 60 kilometers, there's nothing to stop you from enjoying a varied tour. With a bit of stamina, you'll conquer the moderate hills of the Algarve in no time. In Lagos and Tavira, you have the opportunity for extension nights – consider it; the time is wonderfully spent in the old towns and on the beaches!

Can't get enough of cycling vacations? Us neither – that's why Eurobike's destinations extend across all of Europe. In Spain, for example, you can explore places like Majorca and Andalusia, and even Cyprus is an excellent destination to discover on two wheels.

Itinerary at a glance

From the southwesternmost point of Europe to the Spanish-Portuguese border. Along impressive coastal stretches with spectacular rock formations to picturesque beaches, with accommodations that leave nothing to be desired.

Explore the coastal town with its impressive fortress or enjoy the nearby beaches.

In the morning transfer to Sagres. Explore a special highlight, the famous lighthouse at Cape St. Vincent, the most south-westerly point in Europe. From the cliffs jutting vertically out of the Atlantic, you have a spectacular view over the sea and can hear the roaring waves. You cycle over gentle hills to the fishing village of Salema and on to Burgau beach. You will be impressed by the famous Ponta da Piedade at the gates of Lagos, a magnificent natural monument and one of the most famous postcard motifs in the Algarve. In the lively harbour town of Lagos, you can reflect on the exciting day over a good glass of wine.

The beach of Meia offers you today the first opportunity to take a dip in the refreshing sea. Here at low tide observe the countless beach combers on the lookout for delicacies. In Odiáxere a visit to the church dating back to the 16th century is very rewarding and in Alvor a stroll across the market Morabito de São Pedro and through the narrow alleyways of the historic centre. Enjoy a break here in a typical restaurant offering the catch of the day. You continue cycling along the coast enjoying fantastic views across the sea. Linger for a bit at the beautiful sandy beach Praia da Rocha, before arriving leisurely in your Day Finish Portimao in the afternoon.

Initially the cycle path leads you along the river Arade into the village Ferragudo with its beautiful church and marvellous views across the estuary. You proceed past olive-, cypresses-, orange-, fig- and cork oak trees to Lagoa. There we recommend you try a traditional Portuguese pastry und visit the chapel Senhora da Rocha situated on a ledge above the sea. Extensive sandy beaches are en route to one of the best known holiday resorts on the Algarve. Albufeira is also your Day Finish.

In the fishing village Olhos de Água there is a stunning beach where you can take a break. Feel the sea breeze on your face and enjoy the fine sand between your toes. In Vilamoura you pass one of the largest marinas of the country and then cycle through pine forests towards the Ria Formosa nature park, one of Portugal‘s seven natural wonders. Then already in the distance the capital of the Algarve, Faro, appears. Discover the famous historic centre with its lovely restaurants and lively alleyways.

You continue along the cycle path through the Ria Formosa nature park. Always with the offshore islands in your field of vision, the few clouds over the Atlantic are reflected in the salt lakes. In Olhão you can take a coffee break at the busy market and enjoy observing the locals on their daily errands. After that you leisurely continue into the fishing village Fuseta with its characteristic white houses. Today’s cycle tour ends on the venerable Roman bridge in the town centre of Tavira. Enjoy the evening in one of the most beautiful and most characteristic towns of the Algarve.

Today again the Ria Formosa nature park with its lagoons is your companion. You cycle through pine forest at the beach of Monte Gordo and the dune forest of Vila Real de Santo António until the border between Portugal and Spain. You follow the border river Guadiana for a bit northwards before you proceed over gentle hills, past orange- and olive groves back towards Tavira. Now at the latest we recommend you toast to a successful and very eventful cycle holiday.
