Madeira circular tour with charm

A world of flowers and coastal land

8 Days / 7 Nights
View over tea fields to Funchal

Madeira is globally renowned for its abundant flowers and temperate climate. Empress Sisi herself cherished the island in the Atlantic as a retreat. The allure of Madeira remains as enchanting as ever – witness it firsthand, as Eurobike offers an eight-day journey dedicated to the Flower Island. During this excursion, you'll discover the untamed and romantic coastline as well as the pristine inland areas.

During the five stages, you'll explore various corners of the Flower Island. Your initial accommodation is in Caniço, with a transfer taking you to Camacha for the start. Along the mountain road, you'll head towards the east coast, reaching the picturesque Porto da Cruz. Explore the traditional farmhouses in Santana before conquering the stage along the east coast and arriving in São Vicente.

On Day 4, you'll explore the mountainous terrain of Madeira from Paúl da Serra, accompanied by magnificent views and grazing flocks of sheep. Upon reaching Porto Moniz, you've earned yourself a dip in one of the natural pools. The upcoming west coast of Madeira presents itself as particularly picturesque. Enjoy the inviting sandy beach in Calheta before embarking on the final stage to Funchal. Be sure to make a stop at the Cabo Girao viewpoint – the panorama is unparalleled! Before your journey home, you have the opportunity to take a ride on the famous Teleférico do Funchal, a cable car that travels from the old town to the mountain village of Monte.

  • Between sugar cane mills and volcanic beaches in Porto da Cruz: The small fishing village is beautifully nestled between the famous Eagle Rock, green forests, and the Atlantic Ocean. In this location, you can savor the sea, experience local cuisine in authentic restaurants, and, if desired, enjoy a cultural program. In addition to sugar mills, you'll find the "Engenhos do Norte" factory, where rum is produced.
  • The Cabo Girão Skywalk: At an elevation of 580 meters, there is a viewing platform in a league of its own. Look beyond the edge of the glass structure, where the sheer cliff drops several hundred meters into the abyss below.
  • The island capital Funchal: Situated in a bay, the capital of Madeira enchants visitors with its charm and lively atmosphere. The city is arranged like an amphitheater, yet nature is never far away. Visit the Mercado dos Lavradores or stroll through the colorful Rua de Santa Maria.

Madeira is suitable for cycling tours nearly all year round, as the mild temperatures allow for a getaway from everyday life even in winter. The stages, ranging from 25 to 50 kilometers, vary significantly; however, Madeira is characterized by an extremely hilly topography – experience in the saddle and good fitness are recommended! As compensation, you'll enjoy splendid views of the island and the Atlantic during your breaks.
