The lake is like a blue beauty. Bavaria’s largest lake, also called the Bavarian Sea, is embedded in a beautiful natural landscape. Already the Romans appreciated the beauty of the lake and the archbishops of Salzburg and the dukes of Bavaria loved the idyllic landscape too. On the day trips you will cycle through the landscape of the beautiful alpine foothills and marvel at its variety. The crystal clear rivers and lakes are there to refresh you. On your way, you will be able to visit antique castles and monasteries and in the evenings you can enjoy your beautiful hotel located directly at the lake. On this bike journey through the most beautiful parts of Germany, you will enjoy every single kilometre. You will be enchanted by the region’s beauty

This based in one hotel tour kicks off in Pelham am See. Your journey begins with an exploration of the Eggstätt Lakes Plateau, with the option of a visit to Amerang. The following day, your route encompasses the picturesque Lake Chiemsee. Another highlight is a boat trip (without your bike) to the Herren- and Fraueninsel (Men's and Women's Islands). On the subsequent day, your itinerary includes visits to the Simsee and Rosenheim. The bike ride via Seebruck and along the Alz to Seeon Abbey is also beautiful. Finally, you'll cap off your adventure by exploring the scenic hills of the Chiemgau region on your way to Aschau and Bernau.

  • Eggstätt Lakes Plateau: In Bavaria's oldest nature reserve, 17 lakes and a paradisiacal atmosphere await you.
  • Herreninsel: You can visit Neue Schloss Herrenchiemsee, also known as Herrenwörth Palace. It was built by the Fairy Tale King Ludwig II, modeled after the Palace of Versailles.
  • Fraueninsel: You'll find a monastery of German-speaking nuns on the island. Furthermore, you can appreciate creative artworks at the island's pottery and leisurely wander through its romantic gardens. Your culinary cravings can be satisfied at the fish smokehouse.
  • Rosenheim: In this picturesque town, cozy beer gardens invite you to relax. A walk through the historic city center is also rewarding.

This cycling tour is of moderate difficulty, with predominantly easy-to-navigate routes and only a few hilly sections. You'll primarily follow cycling paths, rural roads, or quieter side streets, though there may be occasional challenges posed by busier roads. The longer segments on well-kept natural paths are particularly enjoyable.

Itinerary at a glance

Typical Bavarian accommodation provides the basis for your relaxation, while the cycling stages allow you to explore Lake Chiemsee and the beautiful Alpine foothills. The Eggstätter lake district and the Tyrolean Achental valley are particularly picturesque.

Enjoy the flair of the “Bavarian Sea” after your arrival.

The oldest nature reserve in Bavaria, the Eggstätter Seenplatte, encompasses 18 lakes and is full of picturesque places. You will cycle on a relaxing tour through forests, fragrant meadows, and past pretty farms to Höslwang, with a magnificent panoramic view of the Upper Bavarian Alps. If you want, you can extend this tour by 20 kilometres and cycle to Amerang, where you will find the well-known German Car Museum and the Historical Farmhouse Museum. Via Eggstätt and Breitbrunn, you will get back to Pelham.

Today, you will discover the beauty of Lake Chiemsee and the pretty places along the way. You will be enchanted by the unique nature and visit major attractions, such as the Roman Museum in Seebruck, or the Horse Museum in Arlaching. You will also have ample opportunities to swim and cool off in the refreshing waters of Lake Chiemsee.

In the morning to Prien and with the boat to the island “Herreninsel” where you can visit the famous castle Herrenchiemsee built under King Ludwig II. On your way back, you will stop at the island Fraueninsel, where you will find a well-known abbey (the oldest still-existing German-speaking female convent on the northern side of the Alps). Explore the beautiful gardens, the island potteries, the fish smoke-houses, and the romantic outdoor restaurant areas at the lake.

First you cycle via Bad Endorf to Lake Simsee with its beautiful, partially unspoilt reeds and riparian zone. The cycle paths continues along the lake through protected nature and landscape. After a few kilometres you reach at river Inn, which leads you to the center of Rosenheim with its historic downtown, many beer gardens and ornate facades. Return by train on your own.

Just a few kilometres further on and you are back at the shores of Lake Chiemsee. From there, follow the cycle path to Seebruck and continue via Truchtlaching on the river Alz to Seeon Abbey with its famous monastery complex and idyllic lake. A freshly tapped lager tastes particularly good in the idyllic beer garden!

You will ride your bicycle over the romantic hills of Chiemgau to Aschau, where famous artists and actors have settled. The castle Hohenauschau towers over the small town and it is not far to the valley station of the cable car up to Kampenwand. After a short visit to the waterfall Hammersbach, you will cycle via Bernau back to the starting point of the journey.
