Two cyclists during a bike stop on the shore of Lake Starnberg

Lake Starnberg enchants with its stunning natural scenery, a dash of high-society flair, and a fascinating history as the former residence of King Ludwig II. And there’s no better way to explore it than on a cycling tour. Five carefully curated excursions lead you through the varied landscapes of the Lake Starnberg region—and, naturally, into the vibrant heart of Munich, a city that simply demands to be experienced. Sparkling lakes, dramatic mountain backdrops, elegant architecture, castles, monasteries, and countless other cultural treasures accompany you along the way. Each evening, you’ll return to your welcoming accommodation, where warm Bavarian hospitality and delicious regional cuisine await.

The first stage takes you from Bernried through the famous Pfaffenwilkel to Munich and onto the Ammersee. In the second half of the trip you cycle round Lake Starnberg. Each of the six nights is spent in the three-star Hotel Seeblick with the Sailer/Lütjohann family. In addition to an excellent location, the hotel offers an indoor swimming pool and sauna area, and is only a few steps from the lake. Treat yourself to some much-needed recovery on the cycle tour! Your body will thank you!

  • Trip through Pfaffenwinkel: 159 churches and monasteries are situated between Lech and Loisach in the famous Pfaffenwinkel. A beautiful spot on earth awaits you, where monks and nuns have built many religious institutions in one place.
  • Green glittering lake: On day five you cycle about 40 kilometres to the well-known Ammersee. The third largest alpine lake in Bavaria offers a rich water sports programme. Whether sailing, windsurfing or diving – you can try out a sport in the cool water!

Get pedalling and explore the beautiful state of Bavaria. You and your bike will spend 240 kilometres together as you explore Lake Starnberg. The Five Lakes country and its warm hosts make every day of your cycle holiday beautiful. Do you love Bavarian cuisine and tradition? Then you are in good hands on this cycle tour. The route is slightly hilly with few climbs. You take on each day on mostly asphalted and easy to cycle byroads. In the evening you just need to take a seat in the shaded beer garden and refill your electrolytes with a ‘Maß’ of beer!

itinerary at a glance

Each day, you’ll head out from your accommodation to discover a new highlight—whether it’s shimmering lakes or the church- and monastery-dotted landscapes of the Pfaffenwinkel region. Visit the castles of Berg and Possenhofen and follow in the footsteps of the world-famous Empress Sisi. One day is devoted entirely to the Bavarian capital, Munich—with all its remarkable sights and vibrant charm. A photo at Marienplatz is a must, but the English Garden, Viktualienmarkt, and Olympic Park also promise unforgettable moments in this dynamic city.

Your travel documents and rental bikes will be waiting for you at the hotel. Why not start your getaway right away and relax with the hotel’s amenities or take a refreshing first dip in the lake!

Follow scenic trails through almost untouched nature to reach Lake Riegsee. A brief visit to the charming town of Murnau is highly recommended—especially for its delightful market street and notable sights. On the return journey, be captivated by the picturesque Osterseen, a cluster of 20 lakes famed for being among the warmest in Germany.

After today’s bike tour, it’s easy to see why monks, nuns, and priests built 159 churches and countless monasteries in this region. You’ll discover a truly beautiful corner of the world on two wheels. The historic town of Weilheim beckons with a peaceful rest at its car-free Marienplatz, while the entire area exudes charm and serenity.

Today, you'll take the train to Munich and then explore the Bavarian capital by bike. You’ll ride along scenic paths through the English Garden, hopping from one iconic landmark to the next. Later, the Isar Cycle Path will lead you to Wolfratshausen and then gently wind through rolling hills back to Lake Starnberg.

Another day in the famous Pfaffenwinkel region brings a special highlight for cyclists. Andechs Abbey offers plenty to delight culture lovers—and its beer garden is counted among the most beautiful in Germany. A lovely lakeside promenade leads from here to Herrsching at Lake Ammersee, which you can also reach by bike. Afterwards, you’ll soon return to the shores of Lake Starnberg.

The route around Lake Starnberg is beautifully laid out, taking you from one lakeside town to the next. Along the way, you’ll encounter not only the elegant villas of Bavarian high society but also cozy, shaded beer gardens, Italian gelaterias, and idyllic swimming spots that define the day’s ride.
