Panoramic view of Salzburg

Munich is renowned for its Oktoberfest, Salzburg for its Festspiele—between these two cultural gems, countless highlights await, both within the cities and along the cycling routes. In the Bavarian capital, enjoy a visit to a traditional beer garden and watch the surfers on the Eisbach before heading toward Bad Tölz, where lively local traditions thrive at every corner. From there, the route takes you through the scenic lake district, from the charming Tegernsee to the so-called “Bavarian Sea.” At Chiemsee, admire the boats gliding across the water and consider an optional exploration of its two islands. Majestic mountain views accompany you as you approach the Austrian border via the spa town of Inzell. The journey concludes in the city of Mozart, where its picturesque streets and rich cultural heritage provide a perfect finale to this unforgettable cycling adventure.

For a cool jug of ‘Radler’ to fuel the cycle ride, you can’t go wrong in Munich. The Bavarian capital impresses not only with its beer culture, but also with its unmistakable cityscape. Century-old buildings and historic museums characterise the city of culture. The Marienplatz with the town hall, English Garden, Hofbräuhaus and the Viktualienmarkt show the many faces of Munich.

On day two of four you cycle from Munich via Bad Tölz and the Schliersee to Bad Feilnbach. On the Isar cycle path, enjoyment in the saddle is forefront. Lovely forests, marvellous lake panoramas and charming towns line the routes. Bad Feilnbach is colourfully decorated. Over 30,000 fruit trees adorn the place and because of its climate, it is also called the ‘Bavarian Merano’.

Continue the cycle tour from Chiemsee to Inzell. Along the red Traun and between the higher and higher mountains you come closer and closer to the gates of Salzburg. Once in the city of Mozart you can put the wheels down. Now, for a grand finale, you can focus on indulgence!

  • Schliersee: The inspiring blue beauty invites you to relax. No matter whether it’s right on the shore, in one of the surrounding restaurants or seeing the sights, the Schliersee offers plenty of space to enjoy yourself.
  • The city of Mozart: Pure happiness comes on arrival in Salzburg. You stroll through the lovely old town with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Hearty delicacies and culinary delights will make your heart beat faster. Stroll through the charming alleyways of the festival city and end your cycle tour in style.

For the most part, the route runs on flat terrain. But you will also build up a sweat! During the stage from Bad Tölz to Bad Feilnbach, the hills require a bit of muscle. After the effort, a well-deserved break is guaranteed!

Are you in the mood for a trip to the city of Mozart? And on two wheels? Book your trip and discover the idyll between Munich and Salzburg with Eurobike!

itinerary at a glance

The route is mostly easy to ride, with some hilly sections along the way. Particularly between Bad Tölz and Bad Feilnbach, you’ll encounter a few climbs. The path follows a mix of bike trails and mostly quiet farm and side roads, with only a few short stretches on busier roads.

After receiving your personalized tour information and picking up your bike, immerse yourself in the charm of Bavaria’s capital. Relax in one of its shady beer gardens with a cool “Radlermaß” (Shandy) to get ready for the adventure ahead. Explore a museum, stroll through the English Garden, and wander the Viktualienmarkt—perfect ways to ease into your journey.

The Isar Cycle Path takes you through lush riparian forests, past Wolfratshausen and Geretsried, and on to Bad Tölz. Situated at the crossroads of two historic trade routes—the Isar River and the old salt road from Reichenhall to the Allgäu—Bad Tölz quickly grew into a bustling hub of commerce. The ornately decorated townhouses still bear witness to this prosperous era. Stroll down the lively market street and you’ll find yourself walking in the footsteps of the popular German TV crime series “Der Bulle von Tölz.”

The route takes you through the picturesque Tegernsee countryside, gently rolling over hills until you reach the lake. From Gmund, you can take in breathtaking views of the water and the Alpine peaks beyond. It’s the perfect spot for a scenic boat ride or a refreshing swim. From here, the Bodensee–Königssee Cycle Route continues onward to Lake Schliersee.

This stage begins with a ride along the lakeshore, followed by a gently rolling route to Bad Feilnbach. Thanks to its mild climate and more than 30,000 fruit trees, this spa town is often called the “Bavarian Merano.” The charming town is just as colorful and inviting as its nickname suggests.

You’ll cycle through the Kollerfilze—the largest peatland in Bavaria—before arriving in Neubeuern. Throughout the town, two crossed boathooks catch the eye, symbolizing its rich heritage as a former market hub on the River Inn, once thriving on shipbuilding. The route then leads you through Frasdorf, nestled at the foot of the Chiemgau Alps, and onward to Lake Chiemsee. Your stage ends in Prien, Bernau or Aschau. We recommend a boat ride to the islands of Herrenchiemsee and Frauenchiemsee.

The mountains grow more prominent with every mile, yet the cycling route remains pleasantly flat. Passing through the “Bergener Moos” at the foot of the Chiemgau region’s local peak, the Hochfelln (1,674 m / 5,492 ft), the path leads you via Bad Adelholzen—famous for its healing spring—to Siegsdorf, where you might stop to visit the natural history museum. Following the Red Traun River, the route continues into the idyllic town of Inzell. Here, traditional Lüftlmalerei (alpine frescoes) and flower-adorned townhouses define the charm of this spa resort.

Hotel (example): Alpinhotel INzeller

Nestled between towering peaks, the route winds through Piding, around Mount Hochstaufen, and along the Saalach River to Bad Reichenhall. Take time to visit the Saltworks’ spring house, the impressive Minster of St. Zeno, and the tranquil spa gardens. Soon after, you’ll cross the Bavarian-Austrian border and reach Salzburg—the enchanting city of Mozart.
