The region around the junction of the rivers Neckar and Rhine is not only very scenic but it also offers many cultural highlights in a very mild Mediterranean climate. Visit the famous cities Speyer with its beautiful cathedral, Heidelberg, the oldest university town in Germany and the ancient imperial city of Worms. On this tour, you will ride your bike on the German wine route through the second largest wine region in Germany.
The first stage leads from Neustadt an der Weinstraße to Speyer and Heidelberg. On day 3, you will first catch sight of the half-timbered houses in Ladenburg, before the vines are replaced by lush green forests and the day comes to an end in the cathedral city of Worms. Visit Herrnsheim Castle, take a look at the inner courtyard of St. Martin's Church and enjoy an ice cream at Vannini's on the market square.
The last days of your tour are spent in Germany's second largest wine-growing region. The picturesque towns along the Wine Route as well as the castles and palaces exude the special charm of the Palatinate, while the sun-kissed vines whet your appetite for nature.
Speyer Cathedral: As the burial place of emperors and kings, the largest Romanesque church still standing is more than worth a visit. And yet Speyer has many other highlights up its sleeve: the Technology Museum, the Trinity Church or the Rhine bank promenade with numerous opportunities to stroll and enjoy.
Idyll along the arms of the Altrhein: Islands, peninsulas, meadows and lakes now form the Altrhein, which has been reclaimed by nature in many places after the straightening of one of the busiest waterways in the world.
As a student city with the oldest university in Germany, life pulsates in Heidelberg. The numerous cafés, restaurants and bars, where it is worth stopping off, also bear witness to this. Get yourself a ‘Studentenkuss’ and follow in the footsteps of countless romantics at the Liebesstein (Love Stone) next to the Alte Brücke (Old Bridge). Grandiose views are to be had on the Philosophenweg.
Small winegrowing villages along the Wine Route: Soak up the unique flair during a visit to the numerous winegrowers in the world's largest Riesling-growing region. Be sure to try the typical Pfälzer Saumagen, the "Keschde" or a tarte flambée with regional figs.

Today, you will cycle on pleasant ways from the vineyards, through the Rhine valley, to the cathedral city of Speyer with its medieval city centre. Enjoy the nature along the ancient Rhine channels and follow them until you reach Schwetzingen, where you can marvel at the royal palace and the beautiful park. The tour will continue through the Rhine valley to Heidelberg, home of Germany’s oldest university.
Follow the river Neckar to Ladenburg. The many half-timbered houses create a unique atmosphere. You will cycle through vast forest areas in the Rhine valley to the ancient imperial city of Worms with its legendary cathedral.
You will leave the Rhine valley and cycle on the German wine route into the second largest wine region in Germany. You will experience wine culture in small and large wine villages, get to know the history and stories of the times of the Romans until today and taste very good Pfalz wine.
Today, you will have much time to enjoy yourself in the beautiful wine villages with their unique atmosphere. You will visit Deidesheim and cycle via the region called “Balcony of the Pfalz” to Neustadt.
