Navigation in the Rhine Valley

The Rhine is undoubtedly one of the most renowned rivers in Germany, if not all of Europe. A journey along the Rhine Cycle Route offers picturesque landscapes and visits to noteworthy towns such as Mainz, Speyer, and Mannheim. During the eight-day cycling vacation with Eurobike, we've included a detour along the Neckar, leading you to the charming city of Heidelberg. You can unwind aboard your floating hotel, the MS Olympia.

You'll board your accommodation for the next eight days, the MS Olympia, in Mainz. The first stage leads you along the Rhine Cycle Path to Nierstein, renowned for its wine-growing. You can continue by bike or boat to Worms. The following day, a short yet scenic route will take you via Friesenheimer Insel to Mannheim. On day 4, the itinerary includes a detour to the lovely city of Heidelberg, passing Schwetzingen Castle on the return journey.

Pedal along the Old Rhine from Mannheim to Speyer, and then continue to the fortified town of Germersheim the following day. After an exploratory tour, board the boat and enjoy the journey to your overnight stay in Gambsheim. The final stage brings you to Strasbourg, approximately 20 kilometers away - the charm of the Alsatian capital is simply enchanting.

  • The historic university city of Heidelberg: The Neckar River city boasts its castle, the Old Bridge, and the Old Town, all of which leave a lasting impression. Wander along the Philosophers' Walk to enjoy its breathtaking views and explore the Studentenkarzer. Immerse yourself in the abundant history, culture, and romantic ambiance of this German treasure.
  • Flora and fauna on the Old Rhine: This segment of the Rhine has been separated from its main channel due to changes in the river's course. The wetlands along the riverbanks provide sanctuary for waterfowl like herons and ducks, while the waters teem with various species of fish. Take a leisurely pace and observe your surroundings mindfully.
  • Wine and tarte flambée in Strasbourg: The half-timbered houses, canals, and Strasbourg Cathedral render the city nestled in the heart of Alsace an exceptionally unique destination. Bask in the romantic ambiance along the riverside and conclude your journey with exquisite French cuisine.

Overall, this is an effortless cycling route offering ample opportunities to see and experience a lot, facilitated by bike and boat transportation. The path along the Rhine and the Neckar is predominantly flat and follows well-kept cycle paths. Onboard your floating accommodation, the MS Olympia, you'll indulge in lavish full-board catering.

During your cycling stages, you'll get acquainted with the travel region, engage in conversations with locals, and pass by numerous attractions. If you opt for a bike & boat journey, your accommodation will transport you to the next destination overnight or during breakfast.
