Why Bike & Boat on the Rhine?

Cycling along the Rhine is usually easygoing: many sections are flat, the paths are well maintained, and often run right by the water — ideal for leisurely tours without any rush.

Each day surprises with a different scene: medieval towns, castles perched on hilltops, modern architecture, and vast vineyards. Anyone who loves variety will adore the Rhine.

Pure Rhine romance: vineyards, cliffs, floodplains, and historic places like Koblenz, Speyer, or Strasbourg. The Rhine combines natural experiences with fascinating culture.

Bike & Boat means: cycling relaxed by day, returning to the ship in the evening. No hotel changes, no stress — just movement, relaxation, and a fixed place to come back to.

A glass of Riesling on the upper deck, regional cuisine on board, small wine villages along the route — the Rhine pampers cyclists with culinary delights and atmosphere.

The Highlights along the Rhine

From the Swiss Alps to the North Sea — sights you won’t want to miss:

Loreley Rock

Loreley Rock near St. Goarshausen is one of the Middle Rhine’s most iconic natural landmarks. This dramatic 132-meter (433-foot) slate cliff offers breathtaking views over the narrow Rhine Valley and is wrapped in centuries-old legends. Its tranquil yet striking setting makes it an ideal spot for a pause — especially to watch the riverboats glide by.

Pfalzgrafenstein Castle

The Rhine is dotted with impressive castles, many perched high above the river — but Pfalzgrafenstein Castle is truly unique. Situated on a small island in the middle of the Rhine, it once served as a toll station. Today, visitors are captivated by its remarkable location and intriguing history.

Rheinfels Castle

Overlooking St. Goar, Rheinfels Castle is among the largest castle complexes along the Rhine. Though only parts remain today, the ruins still convey its past grandeur. The panoramic views from the top across the Rhine Valley are spectacular — and well worth the short climb.

Cold Water Geyser Andernach

In Andernach, witness the world’s tallest cold-water geyser. Approximately every two hours, a dramatic jet of water shoots up about 60 meters (197 feet) into the air, creating a fascinating natural spectacle — an excellent reason to pause your journey. The on-site visitor center offers insights into the geyser’s formation.

Drachenburg Castle

Nestled halfway up Drachenfels hill near Königswinter, Drachenburg Castle was built in the 19th century in a historicist style reminiscent of a fairy-tale castle. Easily accessible, it boasts beautiful gardens and sweeping views over the Rhine — making it a perfect spot for a brief detour.
