Danube Cycle Path, Wachau valley

Grein has always been known as the "Pearl of the Strudengau". It was regarded as the last safe mooring point for ships before the dangerous Struden (= whirlpools) of the Strudengau. Indeed, ships were often even unloaded here before they made their way through the danger spots. This is how Grein became the enchanting town it is today.

The Danube valley narrows to reveal the fascinating spots of the Strudengau. The blue Danube can be admired particularly well from Maria Taferl. From here it is only a few kilometers to the Wachau. Your last cycling stage to Vienna begins. The feeling is simply overwhelming as you cycle the last few kilometers across the Danube Island to the end of your journey, the capital of Austria. But a stroll through Mariahilfer Straße, a visit to one of the many coffee houses and some time at Schönbrunn Zoo would also be fine. Vienna itself is one big highlight!
