Sample regional wines in Ora and take a refreshing dip in one of the sparkling lakes along the way. Following the Adige River, you’ll pass Reschensee and Lake Caldaro, before reaching your final destination: the shimmering waters of Lake Garda. Experience la dolce vita at ist finest

It is 325 kilometres by bike from Innsbruck to Lake Garda. Orchards, vineyards, castles and palaces line your way. Your constant companion is the river valley of the Inn and Adige. Eurobike-Tip: Treat yourself to a glass of wine and a plate of pasta on a cosy terrace in the wine village of Auer.

Itinerary at a glance

Traveling through the Inn Valley and up to the Reschen Pass, you'll be treated to breathtaking alpine scenery—followed by a rewarding downhill ride. Fragrant orchards, sun-drenched vineyards, and a landscape scattered with castles and fortresses accompany you through South Tyrol. In Trento, the majestic cathedral leaves a lasting impression, and at Lake Garda, a creamy pistachio gelato is the perfect way to celebrate the end of your journey.

After your arrival, take time to explore Tyrol’s capital with a stroll through Innsbruck’s charming old town—don’t miss the City Tower and the famous Goldenen Dachl. If you're aiming for higher views, head up to the Bergisel ski jump or the “Top of Innsbruck” for breathtaking panoramas over the city and surrounding mountains. Later, you'll receive a tour briefing and your rental bikes.

Sample Hotel: Hotel Cafe Central

On your first day of cycling, you’ll be enchanted by the Tyrolean landscape. The route follows the former towpath along the Inn River and leads to the foot of the Martinswand. Along the way, you’ll pass through charming villages and bustling market towns—perfect spots for a relaxing break. In Stams, take time to explore the baroque Cistercian monastery, with its impressive abbey church and beautifully kept gardens. The route then continues via Haiming to Imst, often referred to as the “Merano of North Tyrol.”

Sample Hotel: Hotel Hirschen

The journey continues through the wild and romantic Inn Valley, passing the monastery at Zams before reaching Landeck. For the steep sections, a shuttle transfer will take you to Nauders. From there, you’ll still climb just under 70 meters (about 230 feet) to the Reschen Pass, followed by a leisurely downhill ride along peaceful bike paths to Lake Reschen. The medieval town of Mals impresses with its many-towered old center, and in Burgeis, exploring the Marienburg Castle is a must.

The route first leads to Glurns, where you can explore the fully preserved medieval city walls, followed by the Montani ruins, which once formed part of the Vinschgau’s defensive system. Majestic mountain panoramas accompany you throughout, with frequent views of the Ortler and the Stelvio Pass. Castles and fortresses, including Reinhold Messner’s Juval Castle, line the way as you approach the charming town of Merano. If you prefer, you can shorten the stage at any point by using the Vinschgau railway.

Today combines stunning scenery with rich cultural treasures. In Lana, discover the renowned Schnatterpeck altar, then explore the chapel at Hocheppan Castle, famed for its remarkable frescoes. Between these highlights, cycle through lush orchards and sprawling vineyards along the South Tyrolean Wine Road until you arrive at Lake Caldaro. Known as the warmest bathing lake in the Alps, it’s the perfect spot to cool off after your ride. Evenings are typically spent in the charming, cozy wine village of Ora.

The picturesque orchards along the Adige accompany you all the way to Salurn—where the German-speaking South Tyrol ends and the Mediterranean atmosphere grows increasingly stronger. The renowned vineyards of Trentino line the final cycling stretch along the dike paths, leading you into Trento with its charming old town. Leave your bike behind and wander through the inviting streets, visit the cathedral, and explore Buonconsiglio Castle.

Leaving Trento, the Adige River will accompany you once again as you follow the bike paths. Take a moment to soak in the vibrant atmosphere at Piazza del Podestà in Rovereto. When you reach Mori, don’t miss the chance to savor the famous pistachio gelato at Gelateria Bologna or enjoy a fresh fruit juice. Then, as you head west toward the lake, you’ll face a short climb up to Passo San Giovanni (about 150 meters / 490 feet)—but the thrilling downhill ride to Torbole or Riva, with its breathtaking views, makes it all worthwhile.
