Break of two cyclists sitting by a fountain

This bike tour begins in Salzburg cycling along the river Salzach.

In Hallein you can follow the traces of the "White Gold" to the salt mine in Bad Dürnberg. Climb down into the world's oldest exhibition mine and gain an insight into the tiring underground life.

In Golling you should visit the impressive waterfall, which is situated close to St. Nikolaus' pilgrimage church that is built in late gothic style. We also recommend a detour into the romantic Bluntau valley.

This cycle tour also has a lot of cultural attractions on offer. Visit the over 900-year-old Hohenwerden castle, which sits enthroned on a steep rock above the Salzach valley.

Those who like the cold should make sure to visit the "Eisriesenwelt", the world's largest ice caves.

The tour continues by bike via Bischofshofen where there is a famous ski jump.

The next stage takes you to Kaprun and from there you will find good bus connections to the high-mountain reservoirs. Enjoy a tour of the impressive dam wall,  the 'experience' exhibition where you can learn about the ice and the glaciers or simply the breathtaking scenery at an altitude of 2,000m above sea level. If that doesn't take your fancy, you could visit the Krimmler waterfalls - with a drop of 380m they are the 5th tallest waterfalls worldwide.

Your bike tour continues through the Hohe Tauern national park and the so-called Oberpinzgau region. Highlights along the way to Lofer are the Seisenbergklamm gorge and the Lamprechtshöhle caves near Weißbach.

The last stage on this tour leads you back to Salzburg. You get there by cycling through the tranquil Saalach valley. Once you arrive in Bad Reichenhall you haven't got much further to go until you arrive back in Salzburg, the City of Mozart.

Leaving Salzburg, you head South. You cycle through shady meadows along the Salzach to Hallein, a Celtic town that used to be rich from salt mining. Hallein will surprise you with its romantic old town. It has got small alleyways, archways and houses boasting magnificent facades. Via the gushing waterfall, you pass Golling and continue pedalling along the well-built cycle path towards St. Johann. Unmistakably - like double mountain peaks - the spires of the Pongau Cathedral rise up here.
